The post The voice of Mario is retiring from the character appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
No other video game character has a more iconic voice than Mario. For decades, the red-and-blue plumber has graced gamers with many an “It’s-a me, Mario” and a “Mamma mia.” However, as any fan of old cartoon characters can attest to, even iconic voices don’t last forever. Longtime voice actor Charles Martinet is officially retiring from his role as the Italian plumber.

Today, Nintendo, through a post on X, confirmed that Martinet is stepping back from all recording roles at the company. The voice actor had voiced the character since Super Mario 64, the character’s debut in 3D. He has since provided voice work in all games where Mario has a voice. He also voiced Luigi, Wario, and Waluigi. Outside of Nintendo, players might recognize him as the voice of Paarthunax, the dragon in Skyrim.

After the announcement, Martinet’s last foray as the plumber in a video game might be in the upcoming title, Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Nintendo recently announced the new 2D platformer coming in November.

Martinet is not leaving the company entirely. He is now Nintendo’s official Mario Ambassador. As the voice actor already does now, he will likely pop up for Nintendo during themed events.

Nintendo has not announced who will replace Martinet as the voice of Mario going forward. However, the announcement does say that a video message from both Shigeru Miyamoto and Charles Martinet is coming at a later date. Presumably, the video will address the character’s voiced future.

Lenovo’s Legion Go can come bundled with AR glasses, leak says https://www.gadgetmatch.com/lenovo-legion-go-bundled-ar-glasses-leak/ Fri, 18 Aug 2023 18:34:20 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=159597 Might be revealed during IFA 2023

The post Lenovo’s Legion Go can come bundled with AR glasses, leak says appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
Is the Legion Go even real? The more we find out about the upcoming console, the more unbelievable it looks. Only a few days ago, a leak revealed that the device will have removable controllers like the Nintendo Switch — a feat yet to be accomplished by contemporary handheld consoles. Now, another leaks reveals something even more extraordinary: bundled AR glasses.

Again coming from Windows Report, the Legion Go can reportedly come bundled with a pair of AR glasses to go along with gaming sessions. Players can wear the glasses for their display and control the action with the main console. The report, however, does not reveal what specs the glasses will have. If anything, it’s expected to have a high refresh rate to accommodate gaming.

After news of a bundled pair of AR glasses, there isn’t much more to reveal from the report. Given previous rumors, the device might come with AMD Phoenix chipsets under the hood, along with other goodies.

Additionally, it might not take long before an official reveal. The report states that Lenovo might debut the new console during IFA 2023, which will happen in a few weeks. During the event, the brand might also reveal how the bundled glasses will work.

Given how the market doesn’t have removable controllers or a bundled pair of glasses, it will be interesting to see how the Legion Go will pair up against the more notable consoles already out in the segment.

Modern Warfare III gets first gameplay trailer https://www.gadgetmatch.com/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-iii-gameplay-trailer/ Fri, 18 Aug 2023 17:29:53 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=159594 Featuring classic maps and an expanded Zombies mode

The post Modern Warfare III gets first gameplay trailer appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
Last week, Activision Blizzard officially confirmed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III launching in November this year. Now, the developers are back with a better glimpse into how the next title will play. A few months before the launch, Modern Warfare III released its first gameplay trailer.

As expected, the upcoming sequel will continue where the previous game left off. Captain Price and Task Force 141 are now going against Vladmir Makarov, a constant antagonist in the long-running series.

Modern Warfare III will also introduce more player control for missions. The new Open Combat Missions will allow players to choose loadouts and playstyles before starting. Players can choose between stealthier playstyles and more gung-ho ones.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the franchise, the next game’s multiplayer will feature a lot of classic maps from the past. Most especially, all 16 maps from the original Modern Warfare 2 from 2009 will be modernized for the new engine. Classic gameplay elements are also returning such as Map Voting and a classic mini-map.

The iconic Zombies mode is returning this year, too. However, the new title will feature the largest map ever. For the first time, multiple squads can team up to fight against endless hordes of zombies.

Activision Blizzard is expected to share more details before the game’s launch. However, pre-orders are now available if you want to grab the game early.

The post Lenovo’s Legion Go leaked in first images appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
It looks like Lenovo is working really hard to release its own competitor for the handheld gaming market. Just a few weeks ago, a report revealed work on the upcoming (but unannounced) Legion Go. Now, the device’s first renders have been reportedly leaked.

This set of images comes from Windows Report. As with other new devices in the segment, there’s a lot to unpack from the leaks.

First of all, the Legion Go is remarkably thick. The main 8-inch screen hints at hefty power hidden underneath, especially emphasized by a grid of vents for the heat. Likewise, the controllers themselves are a handful.

Speaking of the controllers, the Legion Go looks like it has something that its contemporaries do not have — removable controllers. So far, among the top players, only the Nintendo Switch has removable Joy-Cons. Since the Legion Go is likely focusing on modern PC games, it’s interesting to see what its removable controllers will be good for.

The renders also depict a kickstand at the back, much like the Nintendo Switch. One reason for detachable controllers might be for more stable gaming on the go.

In terms of layout, the Legion Go’s controllers will look similar to the Steam Deck, especially because of the trackpad on the right side. However, an interesting addition is an apparent wheel behind the right controller.

Now, it’s hard to tell what the hardware might be, just from looking at the renders. However, rumors indicate that it will have AMD Phoenix under the hood. It will also run on Windows 11.

Lenovo has not officially announced the device yet, so it’s hard to tell when the Legion Go will finally launch.

Some Steam games might cost more in non-US countries https://www.gadgetmatch.com/steam-price-threshold-non-us-markets/ Wed, 16 Aug 2023 17:37:02 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=159563 Especially for indie games with low prices

The post Some Steam games might cost more in non-US countries appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
Using Steam in certain countries can be a treat. Compared to prices in the United States, some countries enjoy cheaper pricing because of conversion rates. Unfortunately, changes to Steam’s policies might eventually force developers to charge more in countries with lower prices.

Yesterday, Steam adjusted its minimum price threshold for stores using other currencies. Technically, the threshold remains the same. Publishers cannot sell content — full game or DLC — below US$ 0.99. The platform, however, is now enforcing the limit on currencies outside of the American dollar. Countries outside of the United States can no longer have content that costs below the equivalent of US$ 0.99 in their currency.

Additionally, the platform is also enforcing the same limits on discounts. Currently, content priced at US$ 0.99 can still get discounts of up to 50 percent off. Meaning, the lowest possible discounted price is around US$ 0.49. Other countries must now follow suit.

Now, the countries themselves won’t be the ones enforcing the rule. However, Steam might now start hiding content below the threshold in those countries. Customers in affected countries won’t be able to purchase content that hasn’t been adjusted to fit the bill.

The new pricing scheme won’t affect a lot of titles on the platform. A moderately priced title will still continue as is. However, incredibly cheap indie titles and DLCs might get a price bump

Ubisoft will launch Assassin’s Creed Mirage a week earlier https://www.gadgetmatch.com/ubisoft-assassins-creed-mirage-earlier-launch-october-5/ Mon, 14 Aug 2023 17:47:23 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=159479 The game has gone gold

The post Ubisoft will launch Assassin’s Creed Mirage a week earlier appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
If you’ve blocked off a week in October in anticipation of the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Mirage, you might want to reschedule your vacation a week earlier. Ubisoft has just announced that the new title will launch a week earlier than expected.

In today’s world, an earlier release is a lot less common than a delay. Developers are more likely to delay an upcoming game because of production issues or just general polishing. However, today, Ubisoft announced that Assassin’s Creed Mirage has gone gold, meaning that it’s ready for release. Instead of the original release date on October 12, the title will launch on October 5.

It’s a big change for the series. After Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s thorough enmeshing in the world of pure RPGs, Assassin’s Creed Mirage will reportedly take the franchise back to its stealthy roots. The game, featuring Valhalla’s Basim Ibn Ishaq, will see players sneaking through ninth century Baghdad. Unlike Valhalla’s bloated gameplay, players will reportedly only take a fraction of the former’s playtime to finish Mirage.

It’s a nice change especially for those fatigued over the dozens and dozens of hours required to complete a modern open-world game today. Plus, a shortened playtime will allow players to play more games.

In that way, Mirage’s earlier release date is a good strategy for Ubisoft. October and November are currently packed with hotly anticipated titles including Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Super Mario Bros. Wonder. With the new launch date, Ubisoft will get first dibs over the fourth quarter rush.

Netflix officially enters the cloud gaming space https://www.gadgetmatch.com/netflix-cloud-gaming-public-tests/ Mon, 14 Aug 2023 17:28:38 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=159476 Already testing in some countries

The post Netflix officially enters the cloud gaming space appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
In 2021, Netflix officially entered the mobile gaming arena. The streaming service started offering free mobile games for subscribers including highly notable indie classics such as Oxenfree and Spiritfarer. Today, the brand is taking things a step further by entering the cloud gaming segment.

Starting today, Netflix has started the first public tests for its cloud gaming service, which was first teased months ago. Once again free for subscribers, the cloud-streamed games are available for smart TVs and PCs. By having the app on their TV or on a web browser, subscribers can access the platform’s gallery of available games.

Users won’t need special controllers, either. PC users can naturally just use mouse and keyboard to control the game. On the other hand, TV users can control their game by downloading a controller app called the Netflix Game Controller on the App Store and the Play Store. The app offers a simple interface for those familiar with console gaming.

Currently, the tests are available only in Canada and the United Kingdom. The platform will likely expand its reach as time goes by. Further, only two games are currently available for the test: the aforementioned Oxenfree and Molehew’s Mining Adventure, a new arcade title.

The testing version of the feature is compatible with smart TVs and platforms including Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, LG, Nvidia Shield, Roku, Samsung, and Walmart. Netflix is working on expanding compatibility for other devices in the future.

Rockstar officially partners with Grand Theft Auto V roleplay servers https://www.gadgetmatch.com/rockstar-cfx-re-fivem-grand-theft-auto-v-rp/ Fri, 11 Aug 2023 17:42:04 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=159386 And Red Dead Redemption 2 servers

The post Rockstar officially partners with Grand Theft Auto V roleplay servers appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
Despite being almost a decade old, Grand Theft Auto V is still one of the most popular titles online. A quick peek at Twitch reveals that the title maintains a steady viewership atop most categories on the platform. The reason why is pretty clear: roleplaying servers. Modded servers dedicated to simply roleplaying have been popular for years now. Today, Rockstar Games has taken notice and will officially partner with Cfx.re, the biggest modding community behind FiveM.

If you watch GTA RP, you might have heard of FiveM. In essence, the tool allows developers to customize the world of Grand Theft Auto V to allow a lot of experiences outside the main game. The tool has already created a plethora of modded servers where players can create and completely embody their characters in the city of Los Santos.

Today, Rockstar has confirmed that it is now working with the organization behind the tools. The partnership will also include RedM, Cfx.re’s tools for Read Dead Redemption 2, which also houses a lot of notable servers for roleplaying.

Right now, the announcement does not reveal what the partnership means for the game and its players. At the very least, it will likely ensure smoother operations since Cfx.re finally has support from the main company. It might also make modding quicker when Grand Theft Auto VI launches in the future.

It’s a big show of recognition from Rockstar Games. Whereas other companies might have put a stop to these activities, the publisher allowed these servers to operate, albeit in a gray market. Now, it’s official. Modding and roleplaying are now legal.

PlayStation 5 Slim supposedly leaked online https://www.gadgetmatch.com/sony-playstation-5-slim-leaked-rumor/ Fri, 11 Aug 2023 16:59:12 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=159384 Supposedly "shorter"

The post PlayStation 5 Slim supposedly leaked online appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
The PlayStation 5 has been out for almost three years now. Is it time for another console to add to the family? Traditionally, Sony adds different models throughout a generation’s life cycle. Today, a circulating leak has supposedly revealed the next model in the series: a PlayStation 5 Slim.

In contrast to the original models, the Slim has a thinner for factor but potentially packs beefier hardware in one way or another. Though it launched alongside the original PlayStation 4, the PS4 Slim eventually replaced the original as the default model when the PS4 Pro came out.

Currently, it’s unclear what Sony has in store for the PlayStation 5 generation. The original models are only just balancing its supply with the demand especially after a scalper-plagued launch. Plus, the series already has two variants available for purchase.

According to past rumors, one potential change is the ability to add a disc drive to an otherwise discless console. Right now, PlayStation asks users to choose between having a disc drive or going completely digital. An upcoming model might offer a drive separately.

The latest leak does not reveal much about the rumored model. An accompanying graphic (and some rumors circulating around Chinese forums) does hint that the PS5 Slim will be shorter, instead of just thinner. Besides that, there’s not much more to learn. There is a claim that a video might be coming soon, though.

Refurbished Steam Decks are now available through Valve https://www.gadgetmatch.com/valve-refurbished-steam-decks-now-available-price/ Tue, 08 Aug 2023 19:44:42 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=159214 Selling for much cheaper

The post Refurbished Steam Decks are now available through Valve appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
Refurbished items are a unique way to get a new device for considerably less than the retail price. It’s especially more unique if the said device is difficult to acquire. For one particularly hard-to-find gaming console, entering the refurbished market is a godsend for fans. Today, Valve has announced that refurbished Steam Decks are now available.

Ideally, the refurbished market works differently from secondhand, pre-loved products. While refurbished items were still previously owned by other people, they were also rechecked and retested by the company itself. Valve says that they tested the Steam Decks again before selling them a second time.

According to Valve, the refurbished devices passed the same high standards imposed on entirely new devices. In fact, they also claim that a few of the refurbished devices outperform retail ones in some respects. At most, the devices might have small cosmetic blemishes.

Naturally, the refurbished Steam Decks are cheaper than buying them new. The 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB models will sell for US$ 319, US$ 419, and US$ 519, respectively. In comparison, a new device costs US$ 399, US$ 529, and US$ 649. It’s a significant reduction in price. All will still come with the same one-year warranty given to new Steam Decks.

Though it’s a great way to get a Steam Deck for cheaper, Valve says that supplies are limited. The availability will depend on users returning their units and Steam refurbishing them.

Modern Warfare III officially confirmed for November https://www.gadgetmatch.com/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-iii-confirmed/ Mon, 07 Aug 2023 19:22:35 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=159183 Continuing the series from last year

The post Modern Warfare III officially confirmed for November appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
This year is a victory for gamers. A lot of notable titles are coming out (or have come out) in 2023. We’re still expecting heavy hitters such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Now, you can add the next Call of Duty to the mix. Activision Blizzard has announced that Modern Warfare III is coming later this year.

Today, Call of Duty’s official X account posted a teaser for the next entry to the franchise. Continuing the franchise’s grittier reboots of the iconic Modern Warfare series, Modern Warfare III will pick up where the previous two titles left off. Of note, this is different from the Modern Warfare 3 released way back in 2011 — hence, the use of Roman numerals.

It’s only been a short while since the franchise released the last Modern Warfare. However, the franchise is notorious for releasing new titles every year, minus the rare break.

Except for some voice clips, the short teaser does not reveal much of anything about the next title. It’s unclear how Modern Warfare III will change the formula set by the previous entries in the series. If it’s any indication, the last title introduced Vladmir Makarov, a perennial antagonist in the Modern Warfare series.

Modern Warfare III will launch on November 10.

The post Red Dead Redemption is coming to the PS4, Switch appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
Rockstar Games is tapping into its remastering department once again. After the brouhaha of the ill-fated Grand Theft Auto remastered trilogy, the publisher is working on a remastered version of Red Dead Redemption.

Overshadowed only by the Grand Theft Auto series, the Red Dead Redemption duology offers a lot for Rockstar Games and its fans. The story-driven franchise takes players galloping through the Wild West as outlaws facing the end of their way of life. It’s at once tragic and immersive.

It’s been a while since the original entry came out. A pinnacle of the PlayStation 3 generation, there aren’t a lot of ways to play the aging title on modern hardware. Announced today, the title will come to the PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Switch on August 17. As always, the PS4-compatible title will also come to the PlayStation 5 through backwards compatibility.

Not exactly a remake or a remaster, the conversion bundles Red Dead Redemption with its zombie themed DLC, Undead Nightmare. It will come in both digital and physical editions (coming October 13). It will sell for US$ 49.99.

The conversion’s announcement doesn’t reveal how it will differ from the original release, if at all. Rockstar Games doesn’t have a particularly favorable history with remasters. The Grand Theft Auto remasters offered little improvements over its original releases.

On the other hand, Red Dead Redemption 2, a prequel to the first game, was released for the PS4. As such, it is also playable on the PS5.

The post Genshin Impact Version 4.0: Features fifth nation Fontaine appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
Fontaine, the fifth nation of Teyvat, finally sees the light as Genshin Impact Version 4.0, “As Light Rain Falls Without Reason,” goes live starting August 16.

The “Nation of Justice,” Fontaine serves as a hub of culture, art, and technology, welcoming new adventures, gameplay modes, stories, and three playable characters for players of the hit open world RPG.

Time for underwater adventures

Located northeast of Sumeru, Fontaine is ruled by Focalors, the Hydro Archon, and the God of Justice. The latest chapter of the Archon Quest also takes place in this new nation, featuring a magic show by Lyney and Lynette.

As Fontaine is surrounded by water, it offers a one-of-a-kind underwater adventure. Players can get Aquatic Stamina and collect Recovery Orbs to speed up through Turbulent Bubbles without running out of oxygen.

Underwater combat will also be possible using different techniques; players can take their time absorbing abilities from aquatic creatures and obtaining treasures ensnared by seaweed too.

Fontaine’s first boss challenge, “Icewind Suite” features a clockwork meka duo. Players will choose between two themes and the couple will fight in a graceful yet fierce rhythms of Cryo attacks.

Meanwhile, the other boss enemy, the Armored Crablord “Emperor of Fire and Iron,” dwells in an underwater cave and unleashes Pyro attacks through its organs.

Fontaine’s first characters

The new nation will also debut three new playable characters in 4.0. They are siblings Lyney, Lynette, and Freminet.

Lyney is a five-star archer who is also a famous magician in Fontaine. He is capable of performing Pyro magic tricks and can transform into a Grin-Malkin Cat.

His sister, Lynette, is a four-star Anemo who wields a sword. She can be invited to a team for free by players above Adventure Rank 25.

Lastly, Freminet is the youngest sibling who is a four-star Claymore user. She can wield fully-pressurized Pers to launch Cryo and Physical attacks.

TEKKEN 8 Hands-On: The hype is indeed real https://www.gadgetmatch.com/tekken-8-hands-on-closed-network-test-xbox/ Fri, 04 Aug 2023 03:30:42 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=159011 Even in its beta form during the CNT, it feels like a polished game already

The post TEKKEN 8 Hands-On: The hype is indeed real appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
It won’t be long before BANDAI NAMCO releases its latest addition to the TEKKEN franchise with TEKKEN 8. As one of the more highly anticipated installments in the series, the game promises more fiery battles than ever before. With an already stacked lineup of fighters announced over the past few months, the hype is definitely real for its impending release. Fortunately, I was able to have an opportunity to participate in the game’s Closed Network Test (CNT) this past weekend to try out what’s new!

Let’s just say that, even in its beta form, it’s already looking like the most promising upgrade after a long wait.

Bringing the Heat

During the CNT, I got to try out the much-elaborated-upon Heat System that will be coming to TEKKEN 8. In summary, the Heat System serves as a main combat feature that enhances your moveset’s power and pushes players to stay on the aggressive. It’s a way for the game to remain as action-packed and relatively fast-paced as possible, and truly favors players that simply can’t help themselves.

Each of the sixteen playable characters during the CNT has their own way of activating the Heat System, and is often paired with combos that bring a whole new level to the experience. Honestly, as someone who often plays TEKKEN with a controller, some of the combos took a while to figure out and master. The good thing about it so far is that once you get the hang of it, it’s easy to integrate into your designated moveset and elevates your mastery of the fighters, as well.

Also, the Heat System activation timeframe feels properly balanced to an extent. In my experience, when you’re not being as aggressive, it punishes you by speeding up the timer. However, when you do stay on the attack, it doesn’t feel like you’re in a state of Heat for too long — which would make fights incredibly one-sided. I’m already imagining more experienced and professional players finding ways to keep the Heat running!

Roster and moveset updates

Of course, it wouldn’t be a TEKKEN game if we don’t talk about the roster of fighters — at least, the ones available in the CNT. As mentioned earlier, you can choose between sixteen fighters that have already been announced prior, especially some new and returning faces to the mix. As with every TEKKEN game I have touched since TEKKEN 5, I picked Lili first as she is my main!

For most of the fighters, their fighting styles and movesets are a bit more refined compared to before. This was something I particularly observed when playing Jin, Kazuya, Paul, Lili, and Claudio. Also, with the Heat System in place, some of the more hard-hitting characters felt more satisfying to activate combos for. Even their Rage Arts felt more bone-crushing than before, especially with some of the animations.

Jun and Asuka Kazama, and yes they have identical fighting styles

Perhaps the biggest surprise to me during the CNT happened when I was playing Jun Kazama, the MOTHER herself! Given that her last appearance was all the way back in TEKKEN 2, there wasn’t really much to compare against. Although, what sets her apart from the others is the fact that some of her attacks either do self-healing or self-damage, which is a mechanic that will get a lot of players to learn her moveset later on.

Initial game redesign

Upon loading up TEKKEN 8, it already gave me some chills with Kazuya staring into your soul. From the get-go, the main menu only consisted of just Ranked Play and the Tutorial, which wasn’t much given the circumstances. However, my focus was honestly more on the Character Select Screen that I hope they maintain in the final version.

To be honest, it’s just like any character select screen you can imagine for most fighting games. This time around, TEKKEN 8 now shows you fighter stats and their specific fighting style — a first in the franchise! I feel like that’s really more for the diehard fans to appreciate. Also, something about one of the characters struck me the most but let’s not spoil it just yet!

Everything else about the design of the game and the stages, what else needs to be said? Even though there were only five stages, each of them looked incredible on my Xbox Series X. From the lighting to the different gimmicks per stage, it felt amazing to do battle on all of them!

Hopefully more to come

I am genuinely excited for what’s to come for TEKKEN 8 when it comes out. Coming from the CNT, it looked like the game was in a polished state with minimal bugs to report. Also, the Heat System served as a fine addition to the formula and made every fight worth commiting to. If anything, I wished that the queue times for Cross Platform Play in Ranked were a bit faster, though. Hopefully, with more people playing this game later on, that wouldn’t be a problem.

My other hope for the game later on is that they keep adding more fighters to the pool. Honestly, it would be better if some of them were not locked behind DLC to pay for unlike TEKKEN 7. At the top of my head, I’m looking forward to fighters like Anna Williams, Yoshimitsu, Kuma, and Alisa Bosconovitch, among others. Also, could we please bring Mokujin back?

As of now, there’s no official announcement yet on when the final version will be released. Hopefully, it will still be on track for an early 2024 launch time. But, so far, so good, TEKKEN 8 — the hype for you is indeed real!

Everyone needs a chill game every so often. After spending dozens of hours fruitlessly trying to rank up in a multiplayer game, playing a low-stakes game might be the reprieve you need. Since 2021, one of those notable laidback titles is Unpacking. If you’ve always wanted to try the cozy game, it is now heading to Android and iOS.

Unpacking is as simple as the name sounds. Taking the role of someone moving into a new home, players have to unbox their possessions and make them all fit inside their new abode. Rather than feeding the player directly, the game invites them to piece together what’s happening based solely on their possessions.

The title was an instant indie hit. Though it doesn’t feature complex gameplay, a lot of gamers enjoyed sitting back and letting the experience speak for itself. The mobile version will likely have the same mechanics, but the developers also promise to make use of haptic feedback as a feature.

Unpacking isn’t the only major addition to the world of mobile gaming. Over the past few years, the mobile gaming segment signed on a lot of indie darlings beloved by gamers on the traditional platforms. Now, mobile gamers can try classics such as Stardew Valley, Oxenfree, and Spiritfarer.

Unpacking will drop on both the App Store and the Play Store on August 24. However, starting now, iOS gamers can pre-order their copy of the game for only US$ 9.99.

ROG Strix G16: Straight out of a dream https://www.gadgetmatch.com/asus-rog-strix-g-16-lifestyle-review/ Wed, 02 Aug 2023 00:00:28 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=158013 This is the machine that'll let you play to your heart's content!

The post ROG Strix G16: Straight out of a dream appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
Playing video games transports us to a realm where we lose track of time, completely unfazed by an immersive world unfolding before us.

When I’m burnt out from training for my competitive races and living an athlete’s life, I take solace in playing video games. I let my mind, body, and soul recover from the emotional weight that every training brings.

Having the ROG Strix G16 for two months allowed me to live my inner teenager’s dreams — playing on a monster gaming machine in my free time and escaping to a different world when the going gets tough.

When you like a huge package

When the Strix G16 was handed to me, I was completely astounded by its package. The box was insanely heavy and humongous, but let’s cut ASUS some slack. Despite the monstrous size, the box came with everything you’ll need to live off that gamer’s dream.

There’s the laptop bundled with the ROG Impact Gaming Mouse. Then, ASUS included two (2) types of 100W power brick — a 100W compact USB-C charger, and a bulky 330W power adapter that’s best to keep on your gaming station.

It also came with a supersized ROG backpack, enough to house the Strix G16 and a couple of essentials.

Totally a gamer’s machine

Taking it out of the box, you’ll find a machine designed for heavy gaming. The Strix G16 is intricately crafted with gamers in mind, it’ll make you feel like a competitive gamer. At least, that’s how I felt.

The devil’s in the details when you peruse the Strix G 16. From the dot matrix design across the lid to the cross-hatched vents underneath, distinct elements can be seen in every detail. Even with the way lighting is integrated!

The RGB keyboard is also soft, pleasing to look at, and actually responsive — thanks to the exclusive ROG Overstroke technology. There are also dedicated gaming hotkeys for quick access to volume and mic controls, and even Armoury Crate. They’re customizable and you can program to your liking.

ROG Strix G 16

For its touchpad, it comes with a glass coating and is noticeably 10% larger. While it’s already responsive and comfortable to use, the touchpad isn’t as smooth as most flagship Windows laptops. My workaround has been using the gaming mouse for navigating since it syncs well with the display’s 165Hz refresh rate.

Plenty of I/O ports can be seen on both sides of the Strix G16. On its right, you can find two (2) USB-A ports which I use for the gaming mouse and an additional port for whatever I’ll need like when I need to transfer files via an Android smartphone or my ancient external hard drive.

Meanwhile, the left side houses more ports that every kind of gamer can fully utilize. You can find the power input, a LAN RJ-45 jack, an HDMI 2.1 port that supports up to 4K 120Hz and 8K 60Hz content, and an audio jack.

Moreover, there are two (2) USB-C ports. One supports DisplayPort and Power Delivery, while the other supports Thunderbolt 4 connectivity.

Tough inside and out

The Strix G16 has the capabilities to keep up with you as you dive into another story different from your own.

It’s powered by a 13th-Gen Intel Core i9-13980HX processor and up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 GPU, a PCIe Gen4x4 1TB SSD storage, and an 8GB DDR5 RAM that can be expanded up to 32GB.

ROG Strix G 16

It’s insanely powerful; you can play AAA titles, stream like a pro, and even create content like a madman. The horsepower it contains is like an unlimited magic potential waiting to burst. Intense multitasking sessions are just a breeze, and it doesn’t heat up easily.

While most gaming laptops have a dual-fan cooling system, the G16 pushed a third fan to keep the GPU and VRAM cool. With seven heat pipes and a Conductonaut Extreme liquid metal inside, the G16 — coupled with the ROG Intelligent cooling and redesigned vents — promises an exceptional experience that’ll keep you playing. And it certainly delivers.

ROG Strix G 16

Furthermore, it has enough battery to let you play even when outside, as I found myself doing so on most days I want to take a break from sitting around in front of my desk. Sometimes, I’d sit in my favorite Starbucks branch and continue One Piece Odyssey.

When it runs out of juice, I have the USB-C charger to quickly plug into the socket so I can keep on playing.

Just play in the dark

There’s not much you can say when it comes to the Strix G 16’s performance. A premium gaming machine like this can handle any beastly titles of your liking.

Sometimes, I even multitask with plenty of background apps opened while having the device connected to my Huawei MateView. It’s smooth, powerful, and everything you’d expect it to be just like any other monster gaming laptop.

But while the performance of the Strix G 16 gives off a solid experience for all kinds of gamers, there’s one thing that I wish ROG could’ve put more into.

ROG Strix G 16

The display is lackluster, especially for a gaming machine that costs a premium. I find myself playing in a dark room or in a dim corner at a cafe to actually see what’s on the screen without squinting my eyes.

The panels cause some glare (yes, even with an anti-glare feature) and even with increasing the brightness to a maximum, it’ll still feel like a challenge to take a look at what’s happening in your gameplay.

ROG Strix G 16

I even squinted my eyes and looked closely at the screen, putting myself in an awkward position in terms of posture. Besides, it’s not a good thing to be too up close to a screen. which happens when you badly want to take a look at what’s happening when navigating parts of a game that has a dark scene.

Bring it anywhere

Nevertheless, the ROG Strix G 16 can be easily brought wherever you go. It easily fits inside a supersized ROG-designed backpack, especially in the dedicated sleeve.

ROG Strix G 16

There’s enough room to carry the charger, mouse, a few accessories, and personal essentials. It even has a slot for my umbrella and HydroFlask. I can stay protected from the elements and be hydrated wherever I go.

Carrying it can be quite a pain on your back if you’re not accustomed to lifting weights. It’s heavy, I promise. It’ll put a strain on your back if you treat it like a schoolboy’s laptop.

The backpack sure can handle its heft, weighing 2.5kg. However, you might need to train your body if you want to lug this around wherever you go. Otherwise, it’s best to keep it at a gaming station so you can play any titles you want.

But for me, both the Strix G16 and the ROG backpack are quite a treat for an athlete wanting to break away from an emotionally taxing life.

Is this your GadgetMatch?

The ROG Strix G16 looks straight out of a dream; it’s what every gamers dream of when it comes to a machine that’ll let them play to their heart’s content.

ROG Strix G 16

Think of it as a fantasy turning out to be a reality. The only thing you’ll find annoying in this machine is how lackluster the display is. Otherwise, it’s a solid laptop that will make you want to play all day long.

It’s certainly a GadgetMatch for those who want to be competitive in the eSports arena. As long as you can handle the compromises. If you don’t think this one’s for you, there’s the ROG Zephyrus M16 that you might want to check out.

The ROG Strix G16 starts at PhP 109,995.

For a modest survival horror game released way back in 2016, Dead by Daylight still comes out with notable crossovers even today. Just last week, the game released a new survivor modeled and voiced by iconic actor Nicolas Cage. Now, Behaviour Interactive announced its next crossover chapter featuring the Xenomorph from the Alien franchise.

In an announcement video released today, Dead by Daylight is seemingly taking players to the Nostromo. The video ends by offering a short glimpse of the iconic alien. Unfortunately, there’s not a lot to go on yet. Behaviour Interactive promises to reveal more on August 8.

In the game, new content packs can offer a new survivor, killer, map, or a combination of the three. From the video, it’s almost sure that the chapter will offer the Xenomorph as a killer and the Nostromo as a map. It’s also possible that a new survivor might pop up. Ellen Ripley, maybe?

Dead by Daylight is an asymmetrical survival horror game pitting four survivors against one killer in a chase to escape from being sacrificed. Over the years, the title received a number of tie-ins with popular horror franchises including Halloween, Stranger Things, Hellraiser, and The Ring. Several years into its life, the game still offers hours of gameplay for players.

Earlier this year, Lenovo’s Legion officially exited the smartphone business. The gaming-centered brand couldn’t find a strong grip on the market. That said, it’s not done with gaming at all. Lenovo is reportedly returning to the “mobile” gaming segment soon with a Steam Deck competitor.

The handheld gaming segment is hitting a lot of strides lately. Skyrocketed by the arrival of the Steam Deck, the segment got additional big boosts thanks to the ASUS ROG Ally and Ayaneo’s entire list of products.

Now, according to Windows Central, Lenovo is hard at work on its own portable device. Part of the Legion brand, the device will reportedly sport the name “Legion Go.” Inside, it will come installed with Windows 11, adding a lot of compatibility for modern PC games.

For hardware, the Legion Go might come with an 8-inch screen, a small bump compared to its competitors. It will sport an AMD Phoenix chipset, and an unknown amount of RAM and internal storage.

If and when the Legion Go launches, it will enter a market moderately crowded with impressive devices. There’s still some room for improvement. Plus, more products will usually equal better competition among those already in the market. It’ll be interesting to see where the Legion Go lands when it drops.

The post Nintendo Switch 2 might arrive next year appeared first on GadgetMatch.

It’s been a long time since the Nintendo Switch was first launched. Though the iconic console released a Lite and an OLED version, a lot of people are asking what’s really next for Nintendo. Both unconfirmed rumors and official news have already revealed existing plans for a true successor. Now, a new report spoils that the eventual console will come sooner rather than later.

According to sources from VGC, Nintendo is gearing up to launch the Switch successor sometime during the second half of 2024. Though a lot of development was already poured onto the project, the company is making sure that there will be enough stock to meet expected demand. It seems that Nintendo is learning from the doomed launch of the PlayStation 5.

In other news, the upcoming console will reportedly have an LCD screen, rather than an OLED one. The more basic display supposedly keeps costs low to increase the availability of storage space. While the Switch has a lot of things going for it, the original console is also hampered by aging specs including an old 720p display and only 32GB of internal storage.

The upcoming console will also support physical media including backwards compatibility with Switch cartridges. Since the Switch came only recently, it makes sense for its games to be compatible with what comes next. That said, Nintendo has always had a problem with making its older titles compatible on modern hardware. The company is only starting to catch up with offering older games through Nintendo Switch Online.

It’s a good year for racing games. Between Forza Motorsport and F1 23, there are a lot to play this year. However, if arcade-style racers and accessible titles are your thing, an upcoming title promises to keep racing easy and fun for players. This October, prepare for Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 — Turbocharged. Now, Milestone and Mattel have announced a tie-in with the Fast & Furious franchise straight from day one.

For a car fan today, the Fast & Furious franchise is easily one of the most popular ones out there. Though the series has now leaned further and further into action, it still has its fair share of notable cars.

Now, right when Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 launches in October, players can race using the franchise’s Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody. Compared to other racing titles, the Hot Wheels series allows for some wicked handling through the track. Rather than just racing and drifting, players can use the Hellcat to jump, double jump, or lateral dash through and above enemies.

The game also offers a plethora of unique tracks for users to play through including a backyard, a mini golf course, and a dinosaur museum. There’s a lot of fun to be had in the upcoming game.

Besides the Hellcat, Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 will release more downloadable content after the launch. The title will officially launch on October 19. It will be available on the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Eating dinner while playing a video game? We’ve all been there. Sometimes, a game is just too good that we end up gorging on food in front of our monitors and putting our greasy hands back on our controllers. If you want to get the smelly controller without getting grease all over your fingers, Microsoft has a new Xbox controller for you.

To prepare for the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem film, Microsoft has released a limited pizza-scented controller for the Xbox. Compared to other limited controllers, the pizza controller is highly customized. For one, it has a large pizza going right through it. The pizza will have the scent diffuser to give off that yummy flavor. (Unfortunately, Microsoft didn’t say what flavor the pizza is. If anything, the pizza looks like a slice of pepperoni.)

It’s not exactly easy to get a piece of gaming (and pizza) history. There are only four (naturally) controllers available for users. Much like other custom Xbox controllers, Microsoft will release the limited controllers through sweepstakes online.

However, if you want to get a whiff of the slice of pepperoni, Microsoft will also display the controller in the Xbox Gaming Lounge at the Microsoft Experience Center in New York on August 2 between 4 to 7pm.

The story trailer gives us our first glimpse of our Spider-Men — Peter and Miles — without their masks. We also see MJ who’s let her hair down.

But most importantly, we see Harry Osborne alive and well and is talking about “healing the world.” A line that would be repeated in the trailer by none other than Venom.

It’s been years since Pokémon Sleep was announced. Finally, the mobile title has made it to the finish line. Starting today, users can download the app on iOS and Android.

Pokémon Sleep was first announced in 2019. However, developers pushed back the release date. Now, after multiple featurettes and trailers, The Pokémon Company is finally releasing the app into the wild.

As the name implies, Pokémon Sleep is a themed sleep tracker. Much like other trackers, the app will analyze how well you slept the previous night, including by recording the various sounds you might have made during the night. However, instead of showing users abstract numbers, it will classify your sleep according to how other Pokémon sleeps.

Using animals to classify sleep patterns isn’t an entirely new concept. Fitbit, for example, offers sleep animals as a way to measure how well you sleep. However, Pokémon Sleep, like other Pokémon-themed games, has a collecting aspect.

In the app’s world, you sleep beside a Snorlax every night. Depending on how well you sleep, other Pokémon will also gather around Snorlax. The collecting aspect involves you analyzing how these other Pokémon take their naps.

Pokémon Sleep is already available for free through the App Store and the Play Store. Additionally, you can pair the app with the Pokémon Go Plus+ accessory so you can opt to keep your phone closed throughout the night.

When the ROG Phone first came out, we thought ASUS ROG was the perfect company for the job. After all, ASUS had success with both their Zenfone line and their whole ROG gaming portfolio. It was a perfect combination that came at just the right time. The ROG Phone is now going strong in its 7th generation.

ASUS might have the right device to recapture that same kind of magic with the ROG Ally. It’s a handheld gaming console — ROG’s first.

There are plenty of reasons to get excited about the ROG Ally and all of them have to do with what ROG has built throughout the years.

That’s a proven track record in the gaming space when it comes to hardware, software, and close collaborations with processor partners.

While we’re at it, here are the specs of the ROG Ally.

 • AMD Ryzen Z1 Series processor
 • 7-inch FHD 120Hz screen, 500 nits peak brightness
 • Up to 16GB LPDDR5 of RAM
 • Up to 512GB NVMe M.2 SSD internal storage
 • MicroSD Card slot for storage expansion
 • AMD Radeon Navi3 graphics
 • 40Wh with 65W PD Adapter, support for passthrough charging

The AMD Ryzen Z1 Series processor is also a first for AMD Ryzen. It’s a chip that’s made specifically for handheld gaming PCs. That’s an exciting prospect that could mean more handheld PCs are on the horizon. But that’s a topic for another day.

The series consists of two chips — the base Ryzen Z1 and then Ryzen Z1 Extreme. Both will make their way to the ROG Ally.

We’ll dive into overall performance later on. For now, let’s take a look at this handheld console’s design.

Undeniably ROG

ROG Ally

One look and the Ally is undeniably an ROG device. The lines all over the device scream ROG and are very reminiscent of the recent ROG Phones.

ROG Ally

Viewed from the back, you’ll find the ROG logo carved in a vent-like pattern.

On both side edges is a ridged and sloped pattern. ROG says this was made for better grip.

The overall layout is reminiscent of an Xbox controller with the sticks and buttons being asymmetrical.

The left side has the left stick and the circular directional pad. And near the screen are the View Button and Command Center button.

While on the right are the face buttons and the right stick. Here, near the screen are the Menu Button and Armoury Crate button.

ROG Ally

The trigger and shoulder buttons sit alongside each other where you would normally find them in most controllers.

ROG Ally

ROG also added additional buttons at the back of the device — a staple for pro and semi-pro controllers.

The device weighs 608 grams, slightly lighter than what it will be compared to the most — the Steam Deck, which tips the scale at 669 grams).

Light and just right

Personally, I thought it felt pretty light. ROG did a good job with the weight distribution. The Ally feels sturdy and fits my hand pretty well. Naturally, this experience is gonna vary from person-to-person. For me, it feels like a proper, well-built handheld.

ROG Ally

Once again, the company is very proud with what they’ve done on the cooling front. The fans and vents are laid out in a way that they would avoid your hand.

They’re also made so that the ROG Ally doesn’t produce a loud fan sound even when you’re pushing it to the limit.

ROG Ally

After testing we can say that the ROG Ally is relatively quiet. Perhaps it helps that the speakers are also pretty darn good and the games I played were pretty entertaining. I never felt bothered by noise coming from the fans, which to me meant it was not producing any excessive noise.

ROG says this handheld has been in development for five years now. They even showed us the multiple design iterations it has gone through.

What you see now is what they landed with ultimately and feel like is the most optimized for what they want to offer.

Windows woes

ROG Ally

The ROG Ally will run Windows 11 out of the box. That means it runs more than just your Steam Library right out the gate. Games downloaded from the Epic Games Store, Xbox Game Pass, and EA Play will immediately be available.

Microsoft is rumored to already be developing a version of Windows that’s specifically designed for handheld gaming PCs. That’s great because navigating the Windows desktop interface with a controller isn’t the best experience.

Expect your first day or so with the ROG Ally to be spent installing updates, signing up to the game stores and services, downloading your games, and just the whole set-up shebang.

My advice is to connect a bluetooth keyboard and mouse and sign-in to all your accounts in one go. This way, you can just hop in and play the next few times you fire it up.

Armoury Crate SE to the rescue?

ROG Ally

You can bring your games together through ROG’s Armoury Crate SE. Armoury Crate is ROG’s proprietary software that comes with every ROG device. On it, you can tweak multiple things like how much processing power should be used by certain games.

There are plenty of other things you can do with it. For our smartphone-first audience, think of it as a really souped up version of Game Mode interfaces on smartphones.

Settings and customizations on Armoury Crate SE.

The ROG Phone has this too. And like on the ROG Phone, the Armoury Crate SE pulls in all the games you have installed and lays them out in a cohesive, easy-to-access fashion — one that works with a controller layout.

Not just your Steam library.

That’s a near console-like function that should come in handy if you plan on stacking your Ally with plenty of games from various stores.

If you’re worried about smoothly navigating your games on the ROG Ally, the Armoury Crate SE makes the experience a little more tolerable.

It’s far from perfect and will likely get incremental updates and optimizations over the years – something ROG promised it will do for the Ally for the foreseeable future.

Game time!

ROG Ally

Alright, now that all of that’s out of the way, it’s time to play! I played plenty of AAA titles and a couple that don’t demand as much power. Here’s how the games fared at a glance:

Lego Star Wars (Xbox Game Pass)

 • FPS goes from 24 to 60.
 • Pretty smooth gameplay all throughout.

Hi-Fi Rush (Xbox Game Pass)

 • FPS hovered in the 30-40 range.
 • Some stuttering. Not ideal for a rhythm game, but still fairly playable.

Dragon Ball FighterZ (Steam)

ROG Ally

 • FPS a steady 35-50.
 • Ran extremely smoothly. No lag input. Critical for fighting games.

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered (Steam)

ROG Ally

 • FPS max is 31, dips to as low as 15.
 • Noticeable stuttering but nothing game breaking.

Returnal (Steam)

 • Varied intensely from 16FPS all the way up to 115 FPS.
 • Ran much smoother than Spider-Man despite the wide FPS variance.

NBA 2K22 (Steam)

ROG Ally

 • Steadily at 59 FPS during play time.
 • Crucial for a game like this with so much happening on screen.

Dead Cells (Xbox Game Pass)

 • Steady 24 to 30 FPS.
 • 2D side scroller game, not demanding graphically.
 • Ran smoothly.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising (Steam)

ROG Ally

 • Steady 20-30 FPS.
 • 2D/2.5D Side scroller, also not very demanding graphically.
 • Ran very smoothly.

Game time notes

ROG Ally

Games from PlayStation Studios that are AAA titles – Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and Returnal seemed to require the most out of the ROG Ally.

Both games push the device graphically. This resulted in stuttering during gameplay. But nothing game breaking. Still pretty much playable.

These games drained the battery the fastest. Got about an average of one (1) hour and 25 minutes of playtime before I hit the 5-10% battery range.

ROG Ally, PlayStation Dual Sense

They also put the rumble feature to use the most, perhaps in an attempt to mimic the effect of the DualSense controller. It doesn’t quite get there, but it’s still a solid implementation – close to how the Dual Shock felt like.

More on PlayStation games on the ROG Ally here.

Playing other AAA titles like Lego Star Wars the Skywalker Saga, NBA 2K22, and Doom Eternal, battery life hovered around two (2) hours before hitting the red mark.

Less demanding games like Dead Cells and Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising lasted longer – around three (3) hours and 35 minutes.

More game time notes

Battery goes red at 15% but there’s no alert. On one playthrough, the ROG Ally just died on me.

It’s like getting ghosted. In the grand scheme of things, it’s fine. But a heads up would have been nice. I started watching more closely after that, constantly switching to Armoury Crate SE to check battery levels.

The device feels well-built. It did not overheat to a point that you can’t hold it anymore. And that’s playing under 34-37 degree celsius conditions. It also stayed quiet the entire time. The cooling on this thing is phenomenal.

Front-firing speakers are pretty good. They’re not the best sounding but if you’re looking for a really good audio experience, just use bluetooth headphones or use the 3.5mm jack. The latter is a really great handheld experience.

Me time, We time, Pro time

ROG Ally

Speaking of speakers. This being a Windows device means you have access to YouTube, Netflix and the like. Other than gaming, it’s one of the things you can do on “Me time” with the Ally.

ROG Ally

I watched my fair share of LE SSERAFIM Chaewon and aespa Winter’s fancams. The experience was pretty pleasant.

ROG Ally

One of the cooler things you can do with the ROG Ally is pair it with ROG’s own eGPU — the XG Mobile. With it, you add more power and unlock a few more modes of play.

I didn’t get to try this personally as my XG Mobile was under repair during the review period and as of writing. But I did get to see these during a media event.

With “We time” you can connect the ROG Ally to a couple of Bluetooth controllers and treat it as if it’s a regular console. You can do this with or without the XG Mobile.

“Pro time” is when you have it hooked up with the XG Mobile in a more or less desktop setup. Best for first-person shooting games, among many other things.

Better than the Steam Deck?

ROG Ally

Steam goes into Big Picture mode on the ROG Ally

Jury’s out on whether or not the ROG Ally is an overall better handheld gaming console than the Steam Deck.

It does have a few things going for it. It’s certainly a more powerful device owing to the partnership between ROG and AMD. The display is also more of an eye candy than what the Deck has to offer. Plus having access to more than just your Steam library is a massive boon.

But the Deck has the Ally beat on software support, at least for now. Over the course of the Steam Deck’s year or so existence, Valve has had continuous, active support for the handheld.

It also has built a significant community and range of third-party accessories support. Only time will tell if the ROG Ally will have the same level of support rallying around it.

Some games, like Marvel’s Midnight Suns, even show up as Steam Deck “Verified” on the Ally.

For what it’s worth, I asked this to other reviewers who have used both handhelds: “Gun to your head. You have to pick one. Steam Deck or ROG Ally?” Majority of them picked the ROG Ally.

Price and availability

ROG Ally

The ROG Ally is available in a couple of variants. One with the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme (widely available now) and another with the base AMD Ryzen Z1 chip (coming later).

The highest variant retails for US$ 699.99; a few dollars shy of the Steam Deck’s most expensive variant which costs US$ 649. A 50-dollar difference for better performance, a better screen, and a promising future support.

It has also subsequently launched in plenty of other countries including India and Malaysia. In the Philippines, it will arrive on July 20. The Z1 Extreme variant will retail for PhP 43,995. The Z1 variant will come in August 2023 for PhP 39,995.

You can pre-order from ASUS ROG’s official dealer partners.

Is the ROG Ally your GadgetMatch?

ROG Ally

Pricing-wise, I’d say the ROG Ally is pretty competitive for what it offers. It’s more expensive than current gen consoles, but less expensive than flagship smartphones. It sits right in the middle and offers a unique use-case — play AAA games on the go. I still think that’s incredible.

Glaring weakness is how Windows 11 just isn’t made for handhelds. It’s functional but not the most intuitive for this kind of device. At least not yet. Battery life is arguably a weakness too, but I personally feel the play times are par for the course.

ROG Ally

The ROG Ally is an exciting handheld gaming console. What it represents is a legitimate challenge to the Steam Deck which jump started the more widespread interest in handheld gaming today. Competition is good and we’re getting a heated one with the Steam Deck, the ROG Ally, a few other handhelds, and anyone else who will likely jump in.

On its own, the ROG Ally is a truly compelling gaming gadget. A relatively affordable handheld with the power to play AAA titles whenever and wherever. It’s pretty easy to justify its place in your gaming lifestyle. It’s not perfect but it’s pretty polished for a first generation device.

Gaming is stuck in a world of platforms. To enjoy everything in the industry, gamers need to install multiple platforms from different companies. Thankfully, a few publishers are allowing some of their exclusive titles to exist on other platforms. Today, Blizzard is releasing some of its games on Steam, starting with Overwatch 2.

In an official post, Blizzard confirmed that its titles will come to Steam eventually. The first title coming to Steam will be Overwatch 2. The team-based shooter will drop on the platform on August 10. Its page is already available now for your wishlist. Much like on Battle.net, Overwatch 2 is free to play on Steam.

Though users can play the game on Steam, Blizzard will still require players to connect their accounts to Battle.net to access the game. Doing so will allow cross-play features. On the other hand, players can access the usual fare of features including achievements and friends lists on Steam.

The timing of the Steam launch is no coincidence. Overwatch 2 is also dropping its PvE missions around the same day. By also releasing the title on Steam, Blizzard expects more players to try out the game for themselves.

Blizzard has not announced other titles coming to Steam. If we were to guess, Diablo IV might get a similar release in the future. Despite the release on Steam, Blizzard is still focusing on improving Battle.net and the gaming experience regardless of which platform their players choose.

The modding community isn’t the most welcome among the gaming industry. Though mods give players hours of entertainment (and extending the life of a game in the process), not every video game company is happy about the community. Therefore, when a company officially endorses a mod, it’s easy to stand up and take notice. Portal, in fact, just got this treatment.

Back in 2008, fans created an entirely new game using assets from Portal, which was already a hit at the time. The fan-made game’s premise was simple: What does Aperture Laboratories look like before GLaDOS? Portal: Prelude was a de-facto prequel to the original game, featuring almost 20 levels, new mechanics, and full voice acting.

Fast forward to 2023, the original Portal received a massive update, thanks to NVIDIA. If you own the original game on Steam, you also have an RTX update which dramatically upgrades the graphics of the title. Because the original game was updated, the modding community also went to work on updating their own mods.

Now, in partnership with NVIDIA, the creators of Portal: Prelude released a full version with RTX graphics on Steam. The title’s official page is up now. Like the original’s RTX update, if you own the first Portal, you will be able to download Prelude for free. It will also have updated graphics featuring the same upgrades showcased in the original game.

Though Valve hasn’t said much about the title, its availability on Steam speaks volumes. If you have the original title, prepare to spend a bit more time in Aperture.

The Assassin’s Creed franchise is in for a major overhaul. After a lengthy cycle of just Valhalla, the franchise is returning to its roots with Mirage coming later this year. Before that, however, the series makes a short stop to ancient China for a mobile game. If you want to get first dibs on the upcoming title, Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade is holding a closed beta period in a few weeks.

Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade takes players to the second century BCE in China. Players will wear the garb of Xia, the main character whose mission is to seek revenge for the betrayal of their close friend. The title will span Chinese locales including the Great Wall and the imperial capital of Xianyang. Xia will face against the Xiongnu in this historical traipse through ancient China.

Of note, this isn’t the series’ first adventure in China. The franchise previously explored the country in Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China, a title set in 16th-century Imperial China. The trilogy of Chronicles games brought the series to the 2.5D platformer genre. On the other hand, Codename Jade will likely bring the core gameplay of the franchise to mobile gaming.

Though a release date is still forthcoming, the mobile title will hold a closed beta between August 3 through 11. Players can sign up and answer a questionnaire for the period starting now until July 27. The development team will select randomly from the registered users for the beta. Anyone around the world can participate, despite the servers being in North America and Western Europe.

Microsoft, Sony agree to 10-year Call of Duty deal https://www.gadgetmatch.com/microsoft-sony-10-year-call-of-duty-deal/ Mon, 17 Jul 2023 05:57:01 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=158579 Microsoft still mum on deal's specifics

The post Microsoft, Sony agree to 10-year Call of Duty deal appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
Call of Duty has been the highest grossing video game franchise for years. In the massive Microsoft deal to acquire Activision-Blizzard, the franchise’s exclusivity hung in the balance. PlayStation can now breathe a sigh of relief as both Microsoft and Sony have agreed on deal to keep releasing the first-person-shooter (FPS) game on PlayStation for at least the next 10 years.

CEO of Microsoft Gaming Phil Spencer first broke news of the deal on his Twitter account.

A report on The Verge confirmed the 10-year detail on the deal. It’s a similar deal that Microsoft struck with Nintendo. However, Microsoft is still keeping mum on the exact specifics of the agreement.

Microsoft Activision acquisition

Microsoft’s bid to acquire Activision first shook the gaming world in January 2022. The deal was for a whopping US$ 68.7 billion in an all-cash transaction. However, Sony PlayStation didn’t stand pat and let this happen. The whole acquisition saga went as far as redacted emails being submitted to the court.

A court ruling in July 2023 put the saga to rest, with Microsoft prevailing. The court found that the deal actually fostered competition. However, it still emphasizes the importance of questioning such mergers especially at this caliber.

According to the judge’s statement, the court’s investigations laid bare some practices that ultimately helps the industry. For example, it’s now known that Activision penned deals with Sony and Nintendo for rights to the Call of Duty franchise on their respective platforms for at least ten years.

Almost all games made before 2010 are ‘critically endangered’ https://www.gadgetmatch.com/classic-video-games-before-2010-critically-endangered/ Fri, 14 Jul 2023 19:27:41 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=158498 A lot aren't available anywhere

The post Almost all games made before 2010 are ‘critically endangered’ appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
Being a gamer before 2010 was fun. Before the emergence of Steam, players grabbed whatever they fancied from the shelf. Steam introduced a new way to distribute games. Though the online platform made distribution easier for players, one must ask what happens to titles released before Steam.

For certain organizations in the United States, the question is more than a lingering query. In a recent study from the Video Game History Foundation and the Software Preservation Network, researchers found that almost all of classic video games are “critically endangered.”

The term isn’t often attributed to inanimate objects, much less pieces of software. However, it’s apt for the industry. The report says that a whopping 87 percent of these games are no longer available through the proper channels. They aren’t on Steam or on brick-and-mortar stores.

Now, you might think that these games are incredibly old. Unfortunately, the report’s definition will cause you to feel old. As mentioned above, “classic video games” are those titles released before 2010 — that is, before Steam came into the picture.

Since it’s now impossible to list every single video game that came out before then, the report took a sample of 4,000 games and found that only a small portion of those titles are still easily accessible for players today.

Though the report is conclusive, the onus of preserving video games lies on the publishers. A lot of “lost” titles are available today through emulation. However, emulation is an imperfect form, further hindered by the legality of emulating games. Despite the rise of Steam, preserving old titles will still continue to be a problem for the industry.

Razer BlackShark V2 Pro (2023) non-eSports player review https://www.gadgetmatch.com/razer-blackshark-v2-pro-2023-review-non-esports-player/ Fri, 14 Jul 2023 10:04:14 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=158487 I suck at first-person shooters

The post Razer BlackShark V2 Pro (2023) non-eSports player review appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
I already own one of the best pairs of cans from the last 3-4 years – the Sony WH-1000XM4. But I prefer having that on-hand and ready to go when I’m out and about. Greedy as I am, I also wanted over-ear headphones that can stay on my work desk. Thankfully, Razer came knocking with the BlackShark V2 Pro (2023) in hand.

An eSports headset

Razer BlackShark V2 Pro (2023)

Razer made these headphones specifically for the type of gamer that I am not – a gun-slinging, slick-swervin’, first-person shooter. I felt it was important to declare that from the get-go as I had neither bandwidth nor interest to try the specific games it was made for.

That said, I still did use it playing the games I like. Those being RPGs, some action games, and NBA 2K

So, this isn’t a review of the BlackShark V2 Pro (2023) for eSports players. This is a review by someone who is everything but.

2020 vs 2023

The particular unit I have isn’t the first version of the BlackShark V2 Pro. The first one actually came out in 2020. Here’s a table to show what’s different.

On paper, the upgrades seem minimal. But looking at it now and basing on my couple of weeks with the device, the improvements are focused on quality of life things that make a huge difference in the long run.

Audio Profiles

By default, the BlackShark V2 Pro (2023) has four audio profiles. Each profile is tuned slightly differently to cater to a specific listening activity. The profiles are: Game, Movie, Music, and Custom. These profiles are pretty straightforward.

The custom one has a flat equalizer or EQ which you can tune when you connect the device via Razer’s Synapse desktop app. More on this later.

Holding the Audio Profiles button will shift the selection from the general profiles to the eSports one. These are: Fortnite, Valorant, Apex Legends, Call of Duty, and CS Go. Again, these are pretty straightforward. Just pick the profile for the game you’re playing and it should be optimized for that particular game.

I didn’t get to play these particular games during testing for a couple of reasons. One, I don’t really play them because I am terrible at these games. Two, my windows laptop was under repair for the majority of the review period.

But I did play.

Game

I am primarily a PlayStation gamer. And most of my game time using the BlackShark V2 Pro (2023) was split between two games: Final Fantasy XVI and NBA 2K23. I did try a couple of other games for good measure. These include Returnal, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart: Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered. The first two are games I often go back when testing accessories. Returnal is especially good for audio. The other two, coincidentally from Insomniac Games, are titles I feel are easy to hop back into.

Anyway, on Game profile with the included USB-A dongle connected to the PS5, the BlackShark V2 Pro delivered clear, crisp, and full sounds. I dare say 3D Audio was in effect too. In Final Fantasy XVI, there is plenty of side chatter from NPCs. Depending on where you position main character Clive relative to NPCs having a lively banter, that’s where you’ll hear the sound from.

Razer BlackShark V2 Pro (2023)

Let’s be real. Yes, I was just pretending to play here.

This was even more true with Returnal. I regard this game as the best for testing audio accessories with the PS5. Its sound design is top notch and actually helps you with identifying the general location of enemies. I imagine this is how it goes with the eSports audio profiles.

For the rest of the games, I got the same clear, crisp, and full sound.

Music, Movie, and Custom

Other than gaming, I used the BlackShark V2 Pro (2023) mostly to listen to music. On days that I worked out of a café I just cycled through a few R&B and mellow tracks like Jesse Barrera’s “Strawberry Soju,” “Flower” by Johnny Stimson, and even “Thirsty” by aespa. I like to feel smooth while I work.

The Music audio profile doesn’t sound too different from Game quality-wise. For some reason, it does sound a little louder and you tend to hear higher sounds better. The audio still sounds clean and tracks with great mixing tickle your ears like any good headphones do.

I tried the Movie profile but during a game. It only mildly boosted the dialogue parts. It’s my least favorite audio profile. Even when just watching YouTube videos, I shifted to the default which is Game.

Custom, like I mentioned earlier, is just a flat EQ. And this is something I found out only after I was able to finally connect the headphones to Synapse.

Synapse and PC-isms

The Razer Synapse apps is software that’s used to configure Razer’s hardware lineup. Connect your Razer device to the computer where Synapse is open and it’ll detect it. Eventually.

I primarily use a MacBook Pro daily. That’s where I do most of my work. And as I mentioned earlier, my Windows laptop was under repair for the majority of my review time with the BlackShark V2 Pro (2023). Unfortunately, the version of Synapse that works on Macs isn’t compatible with the headphones.

Fast forward to when I finally got my windows laptop back. I was excited to fire it up, pair the headphones and see what settings can be tweaked. But I ran into what I will call PC-isms.

PC-isms is my personal catch-all term for all the inconvenience I have to deal with in setting up a PC. It took me until the wee hours of the morning just to get everything ready. And by that time I was too tired and sleepy to tinker with the headphones.

BlackShark V2 Pro (2023)

I don’t have a picture that matches the narrative so here’s this instead.

The following day, I finished some work and got to tinkering. Except, the BlackShark V2 Pro just wouldn’t show up on Synapse right away. It took around three to four restarts before I got the thing to work. Perhaps PC users will have more patience in this regard, but for someone like myself who juggles a lot in his schedule, this was a non-starter.

That said, I still managed to make it work. But I skipped the Audio profiles altogether and went ahead to test the mic.

Talk to me

Razer BlackShark V2 Pro (2023)

I hopped on three different calls to test the mic. Which, by the way, is one of two accessories that are easy to misplace. The other one being the USB-A dongle.

Razer BlackShark V2 Pro (2023)

I’ll do my best to not lose these accessories.

Anyway, the first two calls all happened before I got my Windows laptop. So, the mic was just set to default. I got two different feedback.

The first call was with the headphones connected to my MacBook Pro. I was told my voice was audible but sounded muffled.

Razer BlackShark V2 Pro (2023)

The second call, the headphones were connected to my phone. This time around, I was told I sounded clear.

Lastly, the third call was connected to the Windows laptop with me switching among the different voice equalizers. And the general feedback are:

 • Default — Is loud but does sound a little muffled
 • Mic Boost — Likely the best at every call scenario. Boosts the voice and overall clarity.
 • Broadcast — Sounds almost like Mic Boost but less loud and more clear.
 • Conference — Sounds literally like being on one of those conference phones in corporate offices. Skip this one.

Since then, I’ve had the mic on Mic Boost. Personally, I feel it works best in most settings.

Let’s get physical

Razer BlackShark V2 Pro (2023)

I am absolutely in love with all the physical buttons on the BlackShark V2 Pro (2023). My personal favorite is the volume knob. It’s easy to grab and turn for instant volume control. It rotates fully and just beeps if you’re at the lowest or highest volume option.

It’s such a welcome change coming from headphones and TWS earphones that are purely touch controls that can be hit or miss. In some cases, the TWS ones don’t even have volume control at all.

It isn’t the best looking since it sticks out like a sore thumb. But functionally, I am absolutely in love with it. I need better volume controls in other headphones now.

The power button sits on the left cup and is hard enough to press that you won’t mistake it for the mute button sitting right above it. That one’s a lot more tactile, making it easy to toggle between mute and unmute.

Still on the left cup, you’ll find the slot for the mic. It looks like a 3.5mm jack, but I had trouble using it with my desktop mic. If you’re hoping on quick calls, just use the included mic to make sure. And as you can see, alongside it is the USB-C port.

Razer BlackShark V2 Pro (2023)

On the right cup, you’ll find the Audio profiles switcher. By default, you have the general selection. Hold it down and when you hear a beep, you’ll switch over to the eSports profiles.

Stay on longer

Razer BlackShark V2 Pro (2023)

In my one week with the Razer BlackShark V2 Pro (2023). I only ever charged it once. And that’s from zero all the way to 100% too. I couldn’t take note of the charging time but I’m pretty sure I had plugged in for at least about an hour.

But going back to charging it only once, that’s with using it for about 4-5 hours daily. This thing lasts long and can more than keep up with you in extended play or listening sessions.

Should non-eSports players get the BlackShark V2 Pro (2023)?

The BlackShark V2 Pro (2023) retails for US$ 199.99 in the US and PhP 13,990 in the Philippines.

If you plan to use these Razer headphones for plenty of gaming – whether on PC, PS5, or even mobile – I think you’re gonna get your money’s worth. It’s lightweight, sounds great, and is made for extended play sessions. That’s true whether you play any of the especially tuned eSports titles or not. The eSports features, to me, function as sort of an icing on top of what is already a delectable cake.

For general lifestyle, music, and movie use. Perhaps you’re better off getting something else. But if it’s gaming along with all the activities I mentioned, this is a fine set of cans to own.

It’s been a while since PlayStation announced its upcoming accessibility controller for gamers with disabilities. Though the company trickled down some details recently, the accessory was still forthcoming. Now, Sony has finally announced a release date.

Today, right in the middle of Disability Pride Month, PlayStation has announced that the Access controller will launch on December 6. Meanwhile, preorders will start on July 21.

The Access controller looks completely different from the traditional DualSense controller. Its circular design caters more appropriately to gamers with disabilities. Players can customize almost every aspect of the controller including all its different buttons.

Further, players can pair the Access with other Access controllers, DualSense controllers, or other third-party accessibility accessories. As for software, the controller allows players to easily change settings right from their console.

Finally, the controller will come with four 3.5mm audio ports and a mount for a tripod. With the controller, PlayStation built a platform truly meant for maximized customizability. To compare, Xbox also has an accessory called the Adaptive Controller but with a completely different form factor.

Sony has not announced much more aside from what they already announced in the past. It’s likely that the accessory is just getting some polishing.

The PlayStation Access controller will sell for US$ 89.99.

Microsoft’s national nightmare is over. After a length deliberation in court, Microsoft has successfully defended its case against the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). At least in the United States, the company is now free to pursue its plans to acquire Activision Blizzard.

For weeks, Microsoft found itself in the courtroom in a tenacious defense against the FTC’s case. According to the FTC, the company’s deal to acquire Activision Blizzard goes against the spirit of competition in the gaming industry. Today, California Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley ruled out the FTC’s preliminary injunction request. Microsoft is free to complete the deal.

Contrary to the FTC’s claims, the court found that the deal actually fostered competition.

Besides the arguably beneficial results of the investigations, other juicy tidbits also emerged during the trial. For example, Microsoft, wittingly or unwittingly, spoiled some details about Sony’s future consoles. Sony, for its part, also retaliated by saying that the Xbox was good only because of the Call of Duty franchise.

Now, though Microsoft’s American tribulations are over, the company is still facing some scrutiny across the Atlantic. The United Kingdom is also seeking to block the deal from closing. The European, which also sought after the company, already gave a go signal for the deal.

Diablo IV announces its first season https://www.gadgetmatch.com/diablo-iv-season-one-season-of-the-malignant/ Mon, 10 Jul 2023 17:03:19 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=158326 Prepare for the Season of the Malignant

The post Diablo IV announces its first season appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
When Diablo IV launched last month, Blizzard made it clear that it wasn’t a complete experience yet. Like other live service games, Diablo IV will enjoy a healthy lineup of post-launch content through a seasonal system. Right now, Blizzard is readying the game’s first season. Before the launch happens, the studio has finally released details to whet every player’s appetite.

Diablo IV’s first season — called Season of the Malignant — will start on July 20. As with Diablo III, the first season will require players to create a new seasonal character. These characters will go through the game as is and will earn some sweet goodies in the process.

Besides a new realm for characters, the season will also introduce a new mechanic called Malignant Heart. As players go through the season, they might encounter Malignant monsters. Once killed, these monsters drop a Malignant Heart. Interacting with the Heart will resurrect the monster, make them more difficult to kill, and add summons for them. Killing them after the respawn will drop a Caged Heart.

Now, the Caged Hearts are the treasures of this season. Players can slot them into specific, color-coded slots on rings and amulets. These accessories will come with three different slots during the season: red, blue, or yellow. Once slotted, the Hearts confer Legendary powers on the wearer. The developer calls these powers “stupid broken.”

The new season will also come with new story content adjacent to the main story. It will not affect story progression.

Blizzard emphasizes that any purchases made during the season will only be cosmetic in nature.

EA is working on a Black Panther game https://www.gadgetmatch.com/electronic-arts-ea-black-panther-game/ Mon, 10 Jul 2023 16:22:57 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=158323 Headed by a new studio

Superhero fans who also play games have been eating well for the past few years. There is no shortage of memorably lauded superhero-themed video games right now. Now, between titles featuring iconic characters like Spider-Man and the Guardians of the Galaxy, you can add Black Panther to your gaming menu. EA is developing a single-player game based on Black Panther.

Unfortunately, all we have right now is a logo. EA did not share anything other than a simple confirmation that the game is in development.

The untitled game will be helmed by a new EA studio called Cliffhanger Games. The Black Panther title will be their first project. Kevin Stephens heads the new studio. He was the former head of Monolith Productions, which worked on the Shadow of Mordor series. If anything, the studio does have a history.

Besides Black Panther, EA is also working on a separate game featuring Iron Man. Since both are worked on by different studios, it’s unlikely that the two Marvel games from EA will share the same universe. The multiverse can do crazy things, though.

Outside of EA, Marvel fans can also enjoy a host of other titles from other publishers. For example, Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man series is about to get its third entry in October. 2K Games also offers a solid card-collecting experience in Marvel’s Midnight Suns.

Kobe Bryant is the NBA 2K24 cover athlete https://www.gadgetmatch.com/nba-2k24-kobe-bryant-black-mamba-cover-star/ Thu, 06 Jul 2023 19:22:59 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=158218 For at least two editions

The post Kobe Bryant is the NBA 2K24 cover athlete appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
It’s about time we learned who’s gracing the cover of this year’s NBA 2K24. While the face of the standard edition is still a mystery, 2K Games has revealed the cover athlete of the title’s pricier edition. This year, it’s none other than the Black Mamba himself, Kobe Bryant.

The NBA 2K series often offers the yearly title in different packages with different price tags and included perks. For example, NBA 2K23 featured Devin Booker for the Standard Edition. Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird graced the WNBA Edition. Finally, Michael Jordan was the cover athlete for his eponymous edition and the Championship Edition.

Today, 2K Games and the NBA announced that Kobe Bryant will be the cover athlete for two editions of NBA 2K24: the Kobe Bryant Edition and the Black Mamba Edition. This is his fourth time gracing the cover since 2010, 2017, and 2021.

Presumably, the two editions will be the most expensive ones in the pack. Traditionally, buying either of the two legend editions gets players a varying amount of boosts, points, packs, and tokens in the game’s MyTEAM and MyCAREER modes.

Much like this year’s editions, NBA 2K24 will feature two versions of the iconic Laker. The Kobe Bryant Edition portrays his early years wearing number 8. Meanwhile, the Black Mamba Edition features his later years wearing number 24.

You might have noticed the parallel. Like Michael Jordan’s 23 and NBA 2K23, the franchise is putting the spotlight on a thematic athlete. With that in mind, maybe we’ll see Derrick Rose or Vince Carter next year? It isn’t too early to speculate.

Kobe Bryant’s Editions for NBA 2K24 will be available for preorders starting tomorrow.

As mentioned earlier, Assassin’s Creed Mirage will feature an immersive recreation of ancient Baghdad, offering players more than 66 historical sites of what is now the capital of modern-day Iraq. These are divided into the following categories:

 • Art and Science
 • Beliefs and Daily Life
 • Court Life
 • Economy
 • Government

Each entry has been crafted in collaboration with historians and expert advisors. Images selected from esteemed museums and collections worldwide, like the following:

 • The David Collection
 • Institut du monde arabe (IMA)
 • The Khalili Collections
 • Shangri La Museum of Islamic Art, Culture, and Design

The David Collection, for instance, is an exclusive museum in Copenhagen, Denmark is home to the ivory-carved Casket with gilt-bronze fittings, which shall be shown in History of Baghdad.

Professor Sir Nasser D. Khalili of his namesake museum, meanwhile, has a collection of over 28,000 objects, assembled in eight general collections.

The Ruby Lustre Bowl from the IMA and the Blown Glass Jar with Trailed Zigzag Decoration from the Shangri La Museum will also be seen in Assassin’s Creed Mirage.

One of the biggest gripes of Final Fantasy XVI players is the motion blur effect that’s been headache-inducing for some. Thankfully, you can now turn it off. That and more are included in the latest patch of the game.

Version 1.03, which is now available, fixes some issues and adds some new functionality to the game. Square Enix recommends that you install the update before playing the game. Here’s everything we’re getting:

Motion Blur

Players can now adjust the strength of Motion Blur. The default is set to the maximum of 5. You can turn it all the way down to zero to remove the effect completely.

Player Follow (Movement and Attack)

Turning these off prevents the camera from automatically following the player while moving and attacking.

Camera Sensitivy

Maximum settings of Camera Sensitivity, both Horizontal and Vertical, have been changed from 10 to 20.

Controller layouts

Controller layout types have been expanded. There’s now D, E, and F. You still can’t fully remap the controls, but more options is cool.

Corrections

Stability in menus corrected. Text issues corrected.

What’s missing?

As mentioned earlier, the ability fully remap the controls isn’t there yet. Perhaps it’ll come in a later update. Most notably missing though is a patch on Performance Mode. It’s widely been reported to perform worse than Graphics Mode. Perhaps it’ll come in a future patch?

What other FF16 pdates do you want to see?

A PlayStation 5 Slim might launch this year, Microsoft says https://www.gadgetmatch.com/sony-playstation-5-slim-microsoft/ Wed, 05 Jul 2023 17:09:59 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=158018 For around the same price as a Digital Edition

The post A PlayStation 5 Slim might launch this year, Microsoft says appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
The ongoing hearings between the United States and Microsoft have been a treasure trove of delectable tidbits for the gaming industry. For example, recent documents spoiled the unannounced price tag for the handheld PlayStation coming later this year. Now, Microsoft has once again revealed something that Sony is keeping under wraps.

In a more recent court document, Microsoft explicitly stated that it believes Sony is “expected to release a PlayStation 5 Slim later this year.” The console will reportedly hover around the same price point as the Digital Edition, which retails for US$ 399.99.

The PlayStation 5 was released in 2020. Stock issues aside, it’s been a while since the console dropped. An updated version coming soon is certainly believable. After all, the PS4 and PS4 Slim were separated by three years.

However, compared to the previous generation, it’s a bit more difficult to foresee how a PS5 Slim might differ from the currently offered PlayStation 5 Duo. From the get-go, the series already offers a “slimmer” model: the Digital Edition which comes without a disc drive.

If anything, a report from last year hinted at an upcoming model with a detachable disk drive. Even then, it’s hard to see such a model as anything but an upgrade, rather than a Slim version. If such a console will launch, it’s still a welcome addition, though.

Regardless, take Microsoft’s prediction with a grain of salt. Sony has not revealed any plans to release a new model anytime soon.

Season One of the anime has 24 episodes and mostly follows series protagonist Yuji Itadori. He’s a-not-so-ordinary high schooler displaying exemplary athletic and physical traits. Itadori accidentally consumes a cursed object which happens to be a part of one of the strongest Cursed Spirits — Sukuna.

Itadori is supposed to be killed off but Gojou interferes and instead takes him under his wing to become a Jujutsu Sorcerer.
