Way to go, Ford!

The automotive company delivered a strong retail performance for the first half of the year in the Philippines. Thanks to its Next-Generation vehicle lineup, Ford Philippines’s retail sales rose 55 percent from a year ago to 13,838 vehicles.

The Next-Generation Ranger became Ford’s top-selling vehicle in the country, with sales growing by 25 percent year-on-year to 5,436 units sold. The addition of the Next-Generation Ranger Raptor also boosted retail performance, with sales reaching close to 600 units since its launch in late May.

Furthermore, the newly-launched Next-Generation Territory contributed to Ford’s strong sales as well. Like its predecessors, it’s still the leading small SUV in the Philippines, with sales increasing by 22 percent to 4,493 units. The Next-Gen model also breached the 2,500-unit mark in less than three months after its launch at the Manila International Auto Show.

Meanwhile, the Ford Everest continues to thrive in the competitive mid-size SUV segment. It delivered strong sales performance, growing by 503 percent from last year to 3,786 vehicles.

Enhanced ownership experiences

Ford is committed to improving the ownership experiences, giving the Next-Gen Ranger, Territory, and Everest with a five-year warranty. Moreover, Ford Philippines also introduced new service initiatives designed to provide ease and convenience in owning a Ford vehicle.

For instance, Express Service is offered to customers who prefer to have their vehicles serviced in a more efficient way than the usual maintenance. Pickup and Delivery, on another note, is available for those who are interested to have their vehicle serviced without interrupting their day. Participating dealers will pick-up the vehicle, service it, and bring it back to the customer’s preferred location.

“These milestones testify to our commitment to enhance the Ford ownership experience with vehicles and services that our customers need and deserve,” shares Mike Breen, managing director, Ford Philippines.

“We celebrate these milestones with our customers who continue to patronize the Ford brand, as well as with our dealers for their partnership and commitment to enhance the customer experience. We are truly energized and excited for what’s to come for the second half of the year.”

Home away from home: Next-Gen Ford Everest makes long trips cozier https://www.gadgetmatch.com/2023-next-gen-ford-everest-titanium-plus-lifestyle-review/ Fri, 02 Jun 2023 07:28:12 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=157050 I don't know how it gets better than this~

The post Home away from home: Next-Gen Ford Everest makes long trips cozier appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
There’s an inexplicable poignance when you’re driving late at night, alone inside an elephantine 7-seater SUV while humming to the 10-minute version of “All Too Well”.

I took a long way home after dropping off my friends, sighing at every stoplight at 32nd Street. I was crestfallen that I was alone inside a big car, yearning for companionship and laughter. When I used to drive small cars, I didn’t have this longing but I guess it was the price to pay for being engulfed with joy after driving the Next-Gen Ford Everest Titanium+

After all, this automobile gave me an opportunity to bridge people together. I finally had ample space for my buddies and our luggage. Everything and everyone was able to fit in comfortably — stories, laughter, happy moments, and emotional baggage included.

It gave me a weekend full of core memories to cherish and remember.

Home is where the heart is, but that’s not where mine lives

When my mates Aureil and Miguel arrived at 30th East A parking at The Fort, they were amused at how comfortable I was. I transferred between seats with bare feet; scarves and blankets thrown everywhere; bags scattered across the trunk.

What can I say? The Everest has a cozy vibe, it’s impossible not to feel comfortable as if it’s your own home.

That afternoon, there was a downpour and we were watching the raindrops splatter on the panoramic moonroof. We were sitting in the backseat, waiting for the rain to stop, killing time while we listen to folklore.

We comfortably sat in the second row which accommodates three individuals, thanks to the spacious leg- and headroom. Even if I was sitting in the middle, there was enough room despite the high-center tunnel. This wasn’t anything like the Ford Everest two years ago.

The soft-touch materials and leather-padded seats kept us warm like a brittle fire, even with the air conditioner turned on at 16 degrees Celsius.

That’s one of the first things I liked about the Next-Gen Everest Titanium+, everyone felt cozy in the homey atmosphere. We felt safe being in each other’s presence.

Even if we were traveling from East to South and up North, the long trip gave us a safe space to be comfortable in and with ourselves. Don’t you just like yourself more when you feel at home (with the right people)?

L-R: MJ, Miguel, Aureil, Jomi.

Drive out of the city, away from the crowds

I’ve always had a love-hate relationship with driving, what with the never-ending bumper-to-bumper traffic across Metro Manila — be it on inner roads, national highways, and even expressways.

When there’s an opportunity, I switch with a trusted confidante of mine like Jomi who also got a chance to drive the Next-Gen Ford Ranger early in February, so I can sit in the front passenger seat, shake my iced coffee, and look at the side mirror while taking selfies and ~helping~ with the navigation… sometimes. Long live the passenger princess and the walls we crashed through!

But there are also moments when I want to drive and make an effort for people close to my heart. Primarily when I have a refined, tech-savvy vehicle that makes everything comfortable.

Everything inside the Next-Gen Everest parades sophistication. It has the right blend of modern interiors, accented by high technology accordingly.

Next-Gen Ford Everest Titanium+

The steering wheel is incorporated with quick access buttons so you won’t have to look away just to adjust your vehicle and audio controls.

There are also several storages upfront: Bottle holders, an upper glove box, and a center glove box. As a driver with lots of unnecessary “important” stuff, having plenty of storage options give me peace of mind that whatever I need can be stored easily should I need them.

Nine out of ten, I barely needed the stuff I put in glove boxes, but it’s still a nice touch for those who really need extra space.

Just the right amount of space

Speaking of space, there’s plenty for my short legs. With an 8-way power adjustment, the front seats are easy to calibrate to get our desired seating position. This has been extremely helpful for my friend, Jomi, and I who fall below 5’4” in height and struggle with reaching the pedals.

Next-Gen Ford Everest Titanium+

The electronic gear shifter is easily accessible, too, even if we have short hands, which was also designed ergonomically for better grip. It felt like a bulky gaming mouse, reminiscent of the ones I use when playing with the ROG Strix G16.

The fully digital instrument cluster shows everything I need to know, in signs that are easy to understand and comprehend. Simply put, the Next-Gen Everest Titanium+ made me want to be the driver more than the passenger princess.

Next-Gen Ford Everest Titanium+

I’m now at a point where I’m willing to drive and bear the traffic, even if I have to travel roads as far as 70 kilometers down South and be on the road for four hours or more. (Only if I have this car.)

Wonderstruck, blushing all the way home

When we picked up my friend Kalvin in Parañaque, he was astounded by the vehicle’s convenient and innovative features.

He was mesmerized, gasping at the sight of the hands-free Power Liftgate and the power-folding function for the third-row seats, which I pressed so we can have an adequate cargo space for all our luggage and essentials.

Miguel arranged the placement of our luggage upon opening the hands-free Power Liftgate.

When we let him ride the shotgun, he was astonished by how much technology you can tinker with inside the vehicle.

It all started with the massive, 12-inch portrait touchscreen infotainment system. He was ecstatic using the voice-activated controls using Wireless Apple Carplay with our iPhones, and the Android Auto Compatibility for his Samsung Galaxy S21+.

Jomi’s iPhone 13 wirelessly charging at the pad.

Then, he saw how we used wireless charging for our iPhones, and how Miguel didn’t have any power bank and used the 230V inverter in the rear center console instead.

Of course, there are 12V sockets found in the front center console, third row, and in the cargo area — which we only got to use when we had to pick up more passengers during a heavy downpour around SM Clark and my power bank couldn’t accommodate everyone’s smartphones.

We were singing in the car, getting lost upstate

We opened the panoramic moonroof to let the light and wind in.

During our drives along C5, SLEX, Skyway, NLEX, SCTEX, and other major highways, we were blasting music using the Next-Gen Everest’s 8 speakers.

When the weather conspired in our favor, we opened the moonroof to let the light and fresh air in and sang our hearts out with Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream”. Let’s run away and don’t ever look back~

Next-Gen Ford Everest Titanium+

Using Apple CarPlay, we were able to navigate the Clark Freeport Zone using Google Maps while playing on Spotify simultaneously. We felt young with no regrets, just love. (Almost 30 is still young, right?)

Remember when you hit the brakes too soon?

Perhaps, the thing that got me really excited about the Next-Gen Ford Everest is how I felt the security features and driver-assist technology. Even more-so compared to my previous rides with other Ford vehicles.

I came to the conclusion that it was the enormous veneer of the Everest Titanium+. That, coupled with my lack of expertise in maneuvering 7-seater SUVs that triggered the features made me appreciate them.

With a recent mishap using my own car during a heavy downpour and I ended up rolling down a 70-degree slope, the Next-Gen Everest’s Hill Launch Assist, Roll Over Mitigation, and Hill Descent Control gave me reassurance that the accident won’t happen again while I was behind the steering wheel.

Next-Gen Ford Everest Titanium+

The front and rear parking sensors were also working hand-in-hand to alert me when vehicles, pedestrians, and other inanimate objects are too near or getting in the way while I was on the road.

While driving in bumper-to-bumper traffic in the incorrigible Ortigas Avenue Extension where motorcyclists and street vendors pop in a flash, prompting other vehicles for a sudden brake, the Pre-Collision Assist activates when I didn’t get to step on the brakes as quickly as I could.

The vehicle would vibrate, emitting an alarm loud enough to shake you off the driver’s seat. I got saved by the Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), which works when you aren’t able to respond to a potential collision.

Remember when I pulled up and said “Get in the car”~

The evasive steer assist and lane-related features helped me navigate the hellish C5 traffic at night. But I found the parking assist even more commendable.

Parking small cars is a piece of cake for me — be it parallel, diagonal, or perpendicular. The Next-Gen Everest, however, is a different case. It’s enormous, and I found it difficult to squeeze in between other colossal automobiles.

Next-Gen Ford Everest Titanium+

What astounded my friends was the activation of the Active Park Assist 2.0. The vehicle used its 360-degree camera and parks on its own with the Park Aid assist.

But of course, we have the utmost confidence in our abilities to park the Next-Gen Everest properly. We simply used the infotainment system to give an overview of whether we were alighting in perfect symmetry.

The Terrain Management System also came into play when we were driving and parking across the lahar-filled concrete and gravel parking in Alviera and around Clark Freeport Zone.

It just has everything you can ask for, and maybe more.

I just wanna stay in that lavender haze

Photo-op before we hop on a ride to participate in our Spartan BEAST (21KM+30 Obstacles) race in Alviera.

Riding the comforts of the Next-Gen Everest felt like finally finding someone whom you’ll want to clean up bottles with on New Year’s Day. It’s delicate and gorgeous at the same time — both the relationship and the experience of a shiny, new vehicle.

It lasted long enough with only less than half of the tank with over 500km ride in four days. Refueling the tank fully only happened on the fifth day as I drove back to the East.

Next-Gen Ford Everest Titanium+

Long trips used to be grueling, no matter how big a car is. But when it’s designed to look and feel like home, 500 kilometers on the road from East to South and to the North and back is just a breeze through time.

Not to mention, the exterior of the Next-Gen Ford Everest Titanium+ comes with a tough, aggressive facade. It doesn’t give a cozy vibe, but we have to look beyond its appearance. Sometimes, we end up liking a person when we spend some time to know them more.

I guess that’s the lesson the Next-Gen Ford Everest Titanium+ wants to impart: Look beyond what you see, and get the best experience you can ever feel. 7-seater SUVs aren’t that intimidating to me anymore.

Earlier this month, a rumor leaked an upcoming deal between MediaTek and NVIDIA. Naturally, mixing the two companies brings to mind a chipset with gaming capabilities. Apparently, such a powerful chipset is still some ways away. Today, MediaTek has confirmed that it has indeed inked a partnership with NVIDIA — but not for PC or laptop chips.

Announced during COMPUTEX, the new partnership will take both brands into the realm of automotive hardware. Specifically, it will create “a complete range of in-vehicle AI cabin solutions for the next generation of software-defined vehicles.”

Plus, it isn’t just about graphics. Though the chipset will incorporate NVIDIA’s graphics hardware, it will also use NVIDIA AI to seamlessly connect GPUs with CPUs. As a result, the solution can run NVIDIA DRIVE OS, DRIVE IX, CUDA, and TensorRT software in the same system. It will provide advanced graphics capabilities, AI safety, and security features.

Prior to the partnership, MediaTek already offers the Dimensity Auto platform for automotive solutions. Now, an infusion of NVIDIA will bring the company up to speed with modern standards and needs.

Neither MediaTek nor NVIDIA have confirmed an upcoming product yet. Whatever both companies are brewing will take some time before it reaches modern cars.

Ford showcases its ultimate performance truck yet https://www.gadgetmatch.com/next-generation-ford-ranger-raptor-2023-price-availability-philippines/ Sun, 21 May 2023 08:18:33 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=156583 Meet the Next-Generation Ford Ranger Raptor!

The post Ford showcases its ultimate performance truck yet appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
Ford Philippines has just unveiled the Next-Generation Ford Ranger Raptor, taking off-road capability to the next level.

The pickup truck was built for true enthusiasts and was designed and engineered by Ford Performance. New upgrades present a reliable, powerful, and efficient powertrain accompanied by smart technologies and advanced safety features.

Efficient powertrain

The Next-Gen Raptor prides itself on a full-time 4-wheel drive system with the option to switch to rear-wheel drive, along with a rear locking differential, underbody protection, and aggressive approach and departure angles.

It’s equipped with 2.5-inch FOX shocks with position-sensitive damping technology that provides higher damping forces at full jounce and rebound to enable better off-road capabilities. Wheel travel is also increased along with outstanding bump absorption to deliver supreme stability and comfort on all terrains.

Moreover, it’s equipped with a Trail Control System made for off-road. Speed can be set to control the throttle and braking functions so that drivers can concentrate entirely on steering through challenging terrains — rocky trails, muddy tracks, and steep inclines included.

The Next-Gen Raptor has a 2.0L Bi-Turbo Diesel Engine mated with the 10-speed automatic transmission with e-Shifter, producing 210PS max power and 500Nm max torque. It’s equipped with seven driving modes (Normal, Sport, Slippery, Rock Crawl, Mud/Ruts, Sand, and Baja), which are calibrated to have an effect on all aspects of the vehicle: traction control, engine, transmission calibration, and more.

Designed with purpose

All this power is housed inside a bold and aggressive exterior. The Next-Gen Raptor’s exterior is cut from its first generation, showcasing the Ford DNA through a tough, athletic look. Its bold stance evokes power and strength through its increased track and flared wheel arches.

It has an attention-grabbing front with its unmistakable Ford look on its Matrix headlights with C-clamp daytime running lights and bigger FORD lettering. Furthermore, its 17-inch alloy wheels with BF Goodrich K02 high performance make it muscular. The all-terrain tires are designed for aggressive traction for on and off-road adventures.

Like its exteriors, the interiors of the Next-Gen Raptor were designed with a purpose. It has a sports steering wheel with a centered Raptor logo, durable materials all throughout, and Code Orange stitching on the instrument panel, trim, and seats that get cozier when the Raptor’s ambient lighting is turned on at night.

The cabin also features jet fighter-inspired sports seats both in the front and rear with prominent bolstering making the ride comfortable and supportive.

Technology all-over

Like other Next-Gen Ford vehicles, the new Raptor prides itself on seamless integration and enhanced functionality. It has a large, 12-inch digital instrumental cluster exhibiting speedometer, tachometer, animated drive mode selection, and gauges.

There’s also a 12-inch portrait touchscreen center display utilizing Ford’s cutting-edge SYNC4A system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities.

The Next-Gen Raptor is also equipped with advanced safety technology such as a 360-degree camera with a Split-View display, Active Park Assist 2.0, Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Assist with Forward Collision Warning, Evastive Steer Assist, Reverse Brake Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Auto High Beam, Post Impact Braking, Blind Spot Information System, and more.

The Toyota Camry Hybrid makes driving so comfortable https://www.gadgetmatch.com/toyota-camry-hybrid-2023-lifestyle-review/ Wed, 03 May 2023 02:11:32 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=155642 Strong, independent gals: we found the electric vehicle for you!

The post The Toyota Camry Hybrid makes driving so comfortable appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
The Toyota Camry has long enjoyed the reputation of being a reliable and comfortable car from when it hit the road 40 years ago. With its sleek and sporty appeal, matched with an exceptional powertrain, what’s not to love?

Families looking for a comfortable ride won’t be disappointed by the spacious interior and advanced features. Car geeks, on the other hand, know this to be one of the best-selling vehicles, and a sensible choice if you’re particular about aesthetics and power.

As a nameplate that consistently ranks among the top midsize sedans in the country, you already know that it is anything but boring!

Such a dreamboat

We had the opportunity to take the Toyota Camry Hybrid Electric Vehicle out for a spin in the metro. Aside from turning heads wherever we headed, we experienced firsthand how our ride offered the best of both worlds in terms of efficiency, and luxury.

I only had one thing to say as soon as the Camry was brought into the garage. “Wow.”

The executive sedan practically demanded attention with its exterior that gives the right mix of sportiness and elegance. It doesn’t fall short in terms of aesthetics, but how about the driving experience?

Sitting in the driver’s seat, I clicked the push start button long enough to see the ready indicators come on, only to be met by pin-drop silence. I had to open the door to get some kind of confirmation, even the tiniest bit of noise, that it was already running.

Later on, I would find that the quiet drive promise still stayed true, no matter if I was cruising the wide open road, or idling in and ranting my way out of the city’s standstill traffic.

Fit for the strong, independent you

There are different Drive Mode functions that you can use. As for me, I opted for Normal, the standard condition, which is just fine for casual driving.

My itinerary for that day consisted of brunch and catching up with some friends. Before full-on jamming to Taylor Swift with the car’s 9-speaker JBL sound system, I dolled up for a bit, the sassy female in me grateful for the illuminated vanity mirror on my side of the car.

I headed to the restaurant I was scheduled to for brunch feeling carefree and relaxed, never mind the plate ending in 3 even while I was out on a Tuesday. Hybrid vehicles enjoy full exemption from coding anyway!

There was this one traffic enforcer who was about to apprehend me but waved me off as soon as I briefly explained that I was driving a hybrid vehicle. Gotta love the perk, no?

That’s what you’ll enjoy on a daily basis if you invest in a car that’s better for the environment.

For Toyota, hybrid models wear the blue-tinted logo for easy distinction.

There’s comfort in navigating the hellish metro

After brunch, I continued with my drive around the city. As far as comfort is concerned, there are no issues. I also appreciate how the sedan excels in fuel efficiency, owing to its hybrid nature that intelligently switches on gas and electric power.

Toyota Camry Hybrid

It self-charges for maximum fuel mileage every time you hit the brakes (regenerative braking), so you don’t have to worry about scouring the town for charging stations or even gassing up too often! Just think about all the savings you’ll get.

I picked up my friend MJ after realizing I shouldn’t keep this spaciousness and comfort all to myself. The Camry already treated me to a smooth and quiet drive on the road before, so it doesn’t hurt to chill and just enjoy iced cold strawberry acai refreshers inside the car.

Toyota Camry Hybrid

We opted to use the sunroof so we could turn the natural warm sunlight into our selfie light, occasionally giving in to our vanities, while watching athletes run around the obstacle park, and admiring an iconic bridge.

Toyota Camry Hybrid

Ending the day with a coffee run, and two Pasig-Antipolo back-and-forth trips later, I now get why the Toyota Camry Hybrid Electric Vehicle positioned itself as the new standard that transcends style and purpose.

Is this your CarMatch?

Toyota Camry Hybrid

I was on the road for most of the day, but I wasn’t fatigued while driving the Camry. As someone who’s used to cruising the roads with SUVs, I appreciate how I felt so well-connected to the road with this sedan. It’s quite more stable, and I can just imagine happily using this at highway speed!

Toyota Camry Hybrid

Not to mention, the enhanced Toyota Safety Sense System helped me with blind spots and rear cross-traffic and gave me a panoramic view monitor. While I took pride in my driving skills, the advanced technology was still very much welcome to keep me on track!

If you’re all about supporting the cause for a greener environment without sacrificing efficiency and luxury from your car, then you might just enjoy driving the Toyota Camry Hybrid Electric Vehicle. I know I did.

Power in every drive

The Next-Gen Ford Territory houses an EcoBoost 1.5L engine across its variants, delivering up to 248 Nm of torque and impressive power of up to 160 PS.

by Ford and easily helps drivers with fast gear changes for better handling and improved fuel efficiency.

Moreover, the Territory has a longer wheelbase at 2,726mm and a higher ground clearance at 190mm, giving the 5-seater SUV not just a tougher stance but good overall visibility and capability to take on a variety of road conditions.

Both variants are equipped with four selectable drive modes including Eco, Normal, Sport, and Mountain to provide drivers with confidence and enhance their driving experience across a variety of terrains.

Why the next-gen Ford Ranger is a Spartan-approved vehicle https://www.gadgetmatch.com/next-gen-ford-ranger-2023-spartan-race/ Mon, 13 Mar 2023 04:01:29 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=153387 Packed with creature comforts that make driving and being a Spartan easier!

The post Why the next-gen Ford Ranger is a Spartan-approved vehicle appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
A few years ago, I was only dreaming of becoming a Spartan. I took a leap of faith by taking on a Spartan Race back in 2022 in the midst of a hurricane, running through a 10-kilometer muddy trail.

In case you didn’t know, Spartan Race is the world’s premier obstacle course race hosted across the globe. It tests the limits and grit of an athlete, transforming anyone to be their strongest and most unbreakable self.

Three races in and I’ve clocked a total of 36 kilometers, ending the year as a full-fledged Spartan. A 10-kilometer muddy trail in Vermosa; a 5-kilometer trail run inside Timberland Heights; and a 21-kilometer mixed trail in Alviera.

As the 2023 season begins, I was dead-set on taking my first Age Group (competitive) category and a back-to-back race on the same day. All my gears were Spartan-ready, and all that was left was a vehicle appropriate for a Spartan.

Spartan-grade vehicle

In my quest to prepare for my most enduring race yet, Ford lent me the Next-Gen Ford Ranger. The Next-Gen Ford Ranger arrived in a Blue Lightning colorway, emanating strength and speed. It was instantly a head-turner, catching the attention of other commuters and passersby.

Ford Ranger

Everything about the Ranger screams Spartan. The vehicle exudes the same ethos we live for. It’s battle-ready, extremely durable, and insanely powerful.

Previous races L-R: Vermosa 10K Trail (September 2022), Timberland 5K Sprint (November 2022), Alviera 21K Trail (December 2022)

Not to mention, it has striking looks — which I always exude whenever I take on a race. How can you get noticed by event photographers if you won’t play with colors, right?

It looked strong and it made us feel powerful. “Us” as a collective because the emotional state doesn’t just pulsate with the driver, but also with its passengers. One weekend with the Ranger and we felt like warriors. Ready to take on any challenges that we can conquer.

Made for Spartans

Just because I’m a Spartan doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate the creature comforts the Next-Gen Ford Ranger brings. In fact, I am trained to be uncomfortable but the vehicle’s features allow me to pursue the Spartan lifestyle.

Call it a paradox but we take the convenience of having a comfortable ride and/or drive so we can train our minds and bodies to be familiar with pain and discomfort. As a modern-day Spartan, life isn’t all about battles and preparing for war under the heat of the sun.

We wage our fights through our day jobs, balancing our personal lives, while also developing our bodies to be ready for sports.

Having a tech-infused vehicle enables me to freely pursue the life of a Spartan. If you’re familiar with Ford’s driving experience, which we have mentioned several times here in GadgetMatch, it’s always buttery-smooth.

Ford Ranger

Even with a humongous body, I can maneuver the steering wheels easily. As someone who drives small cars, I felt the heft and the pain of driving a bigger automobile. But the features packed inside the vehicle made driving smoother — both for rookies and seasoned drivers.

When a smartphone and a vehicle match!

With every technology update to Ford’s lineup of automobiles, it’s becoming more of a tech machine each year. The Next-Gen Ford Ranger is no exception with the ability to use FordPass Connect. If you’ve been living under a rock, FordPass is Ford’s newest technology utilizing remote control functions for the vehicle through an app.

When I was in a hurry and I couldn’t locate my keys, I used the FordPass app on my iPhone to remotely unlock the Ford Ranger. Through the app, I was able to remotely start the vehicle so I can turn on the air conditioner even before I step in. I was also able to stop the engine, lock the car, and check the fuel level — all in one space.

What I like the most is the vehicle locator feature, which allows me to find the Ford Ranger in crowded parking areas. Thankfully, I didn’t have to use the feature when the Ranger was parked in Vermosa’s gravel lot since I was the only one with a vehicle in a striking blue colorway.

Ford Ranger

Aside from FordPass, the accessibility and ease of use of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto allowed everyone to connect with the vehicle to help in navigation and music playback. We sang “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus while on our way to Alabang so we can hopefully shake our pre-race jitters.

I personally love the bigger, best-in-class 12-inch portrait touchscreen that allows me to see an overview of the map, adjust music playback, and even have a space for responding to calls and messages.

The perfect companion for an endurance race

For a pick-up truck, the Ranger offers extremely comfortable space for its passengers. We picked up Alison — my friend, a teacher, and an elite athlete — partaking in the first race of the weekend. Alison competed with elite and national athletes, hopefully qualifying for the national team.

Ford Ranger

Alison, together with other competitive athletes, gleefully took some rest in the back seat while in transit. They loved the leg space and the coziness the couches offered. The same experience goes for the front passenger seat, which I took as I was playing with the car’s features while my friend Betty took on the wheels.

When female Spartans are lovin’ it

Ford Ranger

Perhaps, the people who enjoyed the Ranger the most are Spartan women that I befriended after my first race. Jomi and Betty, competitive athletes who are consistently part of the Top 10 of their respective age groups, took over the wheel while I was exploring the Ranger’s features and technology.

Recently, I have learned that the Next-Gen Ford Ranger is officially the best 4×4 and pick-up according to the Women’s World Car of the Year judges. It won for a multitude of reasons; the same reasons that Jomi and Betty loved when they experienced driving the Ranger.

Ford Ranger

From excellent ride and handling, a suite of advanced driver-assist technologies and other safety features, an upgraded chassis and suspension, and the bold and confident look that resonates with strong, independent women. What more can they ask for?

Fostering a sense of community

Ford Ranger

What I love about the Next-Gen Ford Ranger is how it builds a sense of community, the same way a Spartan race brings people together. Parked in the gravels of Vermosa, the Ford Ranger became a holding area for my friends and teammates.

Ford Ranger

We used the cargo box to house our bags, equipment, and food. We were able to gather behind, passing jokes and drinks after an exhilarating day.

I used to do things alone and now, I’m surrounded by like-minded people — which was the best plot twist I’ve had so far. And even if it’s just for a weekend, I’m grateful that the Next-Gen Ford Ranger helped in making my first competitive and back-to-back race memorable.

Even with an aching body, the Ranger offered a smooth, safe, and reliable ride on our way home. It’s definitely a Spartan-grade vehicle, made for modern-day Spartans.

The Next-Gen Ford Ranger comes with a 5-year warranty. The longer warranty offering will cover the Next-Gen Ranger for up to 5 years or a total mileage of up to 150,000 kilometers, whichever comes first.

Fast-paced sports need fast-paced connections. It’s hardly surprising that technology now goes hand-in-hand with today’s sports wherein real-time information is a necessity. Now, after a brief stint with Ferrari, Qualcomm is teaming up with Mercedes-AMG on the Formula 1 grid.

Last year, the chipmaker announced a surprising partnership with Ferrari’s Formula 1 team. At the time, Qualcomm joined Google as one of the major technology brands involved in Formula 1. However, unlike Google’s more visible motifs on McLaren’s livery, Qualcomm’s partnership with Ferrari was more subtle.

Since Mercedes-AMG recently unveiled its livery for the upcoming season, Qualcomm is approaching its new partnership in the same way. The brand’s logo is subtly displayed on the car’s rear wing. The team’s garage and clothing will also don the logo for this season.

Naturally, the partnership goes beyond the logo. The team will use Qualcomm technologies to improve its performance on the track. The chipmaker will also help with the team’s fan experiences, in-person and in virtual worlds.

Mercedes-AMG and Qualcomm are now in a multi-year partnership. Expect to see the chipmaker’s logo for years to come.

Now, in the world of Formula 1, Mercedes-AMG remains one of the teams to look out for. Along with Red Bull and Ferrari, the team makes up a part of the big three actively competing for the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships.

What’s it like to use a pick-up truck, according to Ford Ranger owners https://www.gadgetmatch.com/ford-ranger-next-generation-share-experience-owners-philippines/ Sat, 11 Feb 2023 06:37:43 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=152172 Hear it from a website developer and an associate manager!

The post What’s it like to use a pick-up truck, according to Ford Ranger owners appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
The next-generation Ford Ranger became a staple sight on local roads after it officially arrived in the Philippines back in July 2022.

With a growing number of owners, next-generation Ford Ranger owners share what’s it like to use the pick-up truck and how it blends seamlessly into their day-to-day life.

Pampanga-based website developer and part-time photographer Philip Vino and Cebu-based associate manager Earl Cuevas detail the experience of driving the Ford Ranger’s exciting features and upgrades.

Style and comfort

The upgraded look and improved handling of the next-gen Ranger proved to be a match to Philip’s lifestyle. “A pick-up truck is really ideal for my needs. As a young driver, I prefer a pick-up truck that looks good and matches my personality. I’m always in remote locations due to the nature of my job, so I need a vehicle that can keep up with my busy schedule, and I found it in the next-gen Ranger,” says Philip.

For Earl, there was something fresh about the next-gen Ranger’s exterior and overall look. “The headlamps are too handsome. Inside, the ride comfort is outstanding. It doesn’t feel like a pick-up truck as the ride feels really premium,” he shares.

Power and efficiency

The next-gen Ford Ranger gives Philip and Earl a more than capable driving package with a reliable powertrain that balances power and efficiency.

“Driving to neighboring towns and provinces like Subic, Bataan, Zambales, or all the way to Metro Manila and Tagaytay is so easy and convenient with the next-gen Ranger,” Philip shares. He also raves about its fuel efficiency. “A single full tank was almost enough for our 14-day stay in Baguio,” he adds.

Earl, who frequently drives around Cebu because of the nature of his job, applauded the vehicle’s driving capabilities across different terrains. “I have clients who live far from the city and up in the mountains as well, so it’s great to have a truck that is so capable to take me wherever I need to go,” he says.

Technology

Earl and Philip both love the technology that is equipped in the next-gen Ranger. For Philip, the Apple Carplay and 360-degree camera are some of the most useful driver-assist technologies that make driving both a safe and interactive experience.

In photo: Earl Cuevas | Image by Ford Philippines

With the introduction of FordPass last year, both owners are enjoying remote access to their next-gen Ranger trucks with a simple tap on their mobile devices. “We are all aware of how hot it can get in our country. With FordPass, I can remotely start my truck and turn on the air conditioner. My passengers are definitely happy and excited to ride the truck,” says Philip.

Driving experience

Both Philip and Earl are happy with choosing the next-gen Ford Ranger as their daily driver. “It’s a highly recommended truck if you’re looking for a vehicle that can drive you to your workplace and take you to new places and destinations on weekends. You get the best of both worlds,” Philip shares.

For Earl, “There are plenty of choices in the market right now. It will depend on the buyer’s preference, but for me, the next-gen Ranger is one of the best in terms of interior, ride comfort, and exterior design.”

The next-gen Ranger comes with a 5-year warranty to enhance the ownership experience. The longer warranty offering will cover the next-gen Ranger for up to 5 years or total mileage of up to 150,000 kilometers, whichever comes first.

Customers can visit the Ford Ranger page on the website to reserve their next-gen Ranger. For more information, visit www.ford.com.ph or your nearest Ford dealer.

How do new cars get their first test runs on real roads? Common in the automotive space, prerelease vehicles often go on extensive tests on actual roads while disguised with non-revealing designs. As vehicles, electric vehicles are no different. A year ahead of their projected release date, Xiaomi and its first electric car have made surprise appearances in Chinese roads for test drives.

Reported by CarNewsChina (via ArenaEV), Xiaomi has reportedly unleased its unreleased electric vehicle in China. The timing of the tests foretell important tests for winter conditions, an important metric for vehicles in a country that gets its fair share of icy weather. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun reportedly participated in the tests himself.

All of the test vehicles were clothed in black fabric to obscure the final design. Spotters won’t be able to deduce much except from the outline. Speculations are already out and about, though.

The vehicle, codenamed Modena, will come with a variety of battery options including one from Chinese EV mainstay BYD. The battery will supposedly charge from empty to around 80 percent in just 15 minutes. It will also reportedly come with an unreleased automotive chipset from Qualcomm. It might ship with a price tag hovering between RMB 260,000 to RMB 350,000.

As with their first announcement back in 2021, Xiaomi is expected to launch the Modena sometime in 2024. Besides the first vehicle, the company is also working on another vehicle codenamed Lemans.

Ten months have passed since Sony and Honda embarked on a mutual partnership to develop an electric vehicle. Throughout the past year, both companies dropped only tiny nuggets of information about the joint venture. Today, during CES 2023, they are now ready to unveil more about the partnership: a new company called Afeela.

More than just the name of the new company, Sony also presented a prototype car for Afeela. Looking like their concept image from last year, the vehicle reportedly touts Level 3 for automated driving. (Under Level 3, drivers can relinquish control in certain situations like in traffic jams. It’s still a far cry from Level 5, or truly automated driving, though.)

For improved automation and rider safety, the car will come with 45 cameras around and inside the chassis. It will have Unreal Engine support to appropriately envision what’s on the road. But naturally, Unreal Engine will also help with the vehicle’s entertainment suite for riders. Last year, Sony toyed with the idea of packing in a PlayStation 5 inside the eventual vehicle.

More details will likely come out later in the year. Since this is mostly Sony’s ball game for CES 2023, Honda will probably handle more technical specs at a future event.

As expected from previous estimates, Afeela hopes to start preorders for first customers in the first half of 2025. However, the actual cars will only start shipping in 2026.

Why Honda SENSING also matters during heavy traffic https://www.gadgetmatch.com/why-honda-sensing-also-matters-during-heavy-traffic/ Mon, 19 Dec 2022 03:12:14 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=151064 Automated accelerating, braking and more

The post Why Honda SENSING also matters during heavy traffic appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
In introducing the all-new BR-V, Honda also expanded its range of vehicles equipped with Honda SENSING, its signature intelligent safety system.

This was first included in cars like the 11th Generation Civic, all-new HR-V, Civic Type R, and selected CR-V (S and SX Diesel AWD).

What exactly does Honda SENSING cover, and why does it matter to have such system especially in a season like this mad holiday rush? Here are several ways Honda SENSING helps drivers.

Automated accelerating, braking

First, Honda’s Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) is designed not only for open roads but also amidst traffic.

Its wide-view camera technology detects speed and distance of vehicles in front which leads to the vehicle automatically accelerating and decelerating the speed depending on the car in front.

Meanwhile, Low-Speed Follow (LSF) slows down the vehicle automatically to a complete stop and accelerates back up to the set speed when traffic conditions allow. These added conveniences aid drivers in thoroughfares like EDSA.

Advanced notification system

Next, the Lead Car Departure Notification (LCDN) system exclusive to the latest Honda SENSING uses a new camera for a wider field of view, combined with improved software.

This alerts drivers through visual and audio warnings when it senses cars in front that have already moved after a standstill.

Lane assist keeps you focused

The latest Honda SENSING package also includes Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), which assists the driver’s steering to keep the vehicle well-positioned inside its lane.

The steering wheel in fact vibrates and an icon will pop up on the TFT when the car departs the lane without using turn signals.

Complementing this is the Lane Departure Warning (LDW) which notifies if a driver has gone off course, all the more giving reminders to drivers not to forget the importance of turn signals.

Support during unavoidable instances

When the worse case scenarios happen, Honda’s Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) will help drivers avoid a frontal collision or reduce impact when totally unavoidable.

The brakes will apply automatically in such instances. Once the collision has been prevented, the audible alarm will stop.

Road Departure Mitigation (RDM), on the other hand, helps the driver avoid collision by steering the car back to the center of the lane.

Booking a test drive of all Honda SENSING-equipped models are possible for customers to experience the difference first-hand.

  • 1.5 S CVT: PhP 1,150,000

In the cockpit area of the all-new Honda BR-V is a new 7-inch touchscreen display audio. The infotainment system supports Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and USB.

Complementing this connectivity is a sound system composed of up 6 speakers if you’re getting the VX or V CVT Honda SENSING.

Fuel economy-wise, the BR-V has also been tested to go for up to about 24 kilometers per liter for the top-of-the-line models.

Honda SENSING

With advanced features and a premium look, the 7-seater SUV will once again offer Honda SENSING to give drivers peace of mind and safety on the road.

One push start system will be available for 3 variants, while keyless entry will also be having keyless entry.

Speaking of safety, here are more features from Honda SENSING:

  • Lead Car Departure Notification (LCDN) System: Alerts the driver when the car in front has moved ahead from a standstill
  • Collision Mitigation Brake system (CMBS): Pedestrians are detected in front to reduce the risk of a potential collision, reducing vehicle speed
  • Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS): Keeps vehicle at the center of the road and in the best driving position
  • Road Departure Mitigation System with Lane Departure Warning (RDM with LDW): Avoids collisions by providing both audible and visual warnings whenever car swerves without signal lights; LDW also notifies when the car goes off course
  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC): Helps maintain a stable speed at a driver-determined distance, relative to the vehicle in front
  • Auto-High Beam (AHB): This system allows the driver to automatically turn on high beams when there are no other vehicles ahead; it will also turn off when there is counterpart traffic

The all-new Honda BR-V is now available at any of the 37 Honda Cars dealerships nationwide.

Though it’s relatively easier now, it’s still not a walk in the park to grab a new PlayStation 5. If you still find yourself without the new console, there might be a new, unlikely way to get one. Sony has opened the possibility of a built-in PS5 inside a Honda car.

Earlier this year, Sony announced a partnership with Honda to create an electric vehicle company. Naturally, an electric vehicle isn’t as easy to make as a smartphone or a console. Still, the two companies’ joint venture is going swimmingly.

According to a recent interview with the Financial Times, Sony Honda Mobility plans to integrate entertainment with mobility, creating a competitive niche to go against Tesla. In the interview, company president Izumi Kawanishi explained that adding a PlayStation 5 to a Honda car is now “technologically possible.”

However, even if it’s technologically possible, will Sony Honda Mobility do it? Kawanishi explains that the company still has to make the car completely autonomous, thereby eliminating the need for driver input and freeing riders to play in the car.

Though current electric vehicle companies sometimes tout autonomous driving, cars today still need a driver to look after the car on the road. That said, it will take a while for the company to create the car they are envisioning. A car might not materialize until 2025, at the earliest. By that time, the PlayStation 5 might not be as powerful as it is now. Maybe a PlayStation 5 Pro in a Honda car soon?

]]>
Continuing to innovate when it comes to electric cars, Nissan has officially introduced the game-changing Nissan LEAF in the Philippines.

No less than Nissan Philippines president Juan Manuel Hoyos graced the car’s launch. It happened at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City, during the 10th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit last October 20.

The car was first introduced to the Japanese market in 2018. Nissan is hoping its success will be replicated here in the Philippines.

Here’s what we need to know about the pure electric vehicle.

Design, safety features

The Nissan LEAF carries the new Nissan badge with a redesigned bigger grill, blacked-out headlamps and a new 16-inch alloy wheel design. On the rear, it also has a redesigned spoiler and under diffuser.

In front is a D-shaped steering wheel for a sportier look, as well as a floating touch screen display compatible with Apple and Android. There’s also an Advanced Drive Assist Display in front of the driver’s seat with customizable digital information to guide drivers throughout a ride.

In terms of safety, the car carries the features of Nissan Intelligent Mobility, including:

  • e-Pedal, an innovative one-pedal action for both driving and braking
  • Intelligent Forward Collision Warning with Intelligent Emergency Braking
  • Lane Departure Warning with Intelligent Lane Intervention
  • Intelligent Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection

Vehicle-to-Home

The Nissan LEAF also features the revolutionary Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) technology, which can turn the car into an alternative source of energy when the necessity arises – like a power bank of gigantic proportions.

For example, in Japan, the car was used as a power source when communities had power outages due to typhoons or other natural disasters – something the Philippines experiences a lot every year.

The car is said to go more than 300 kilometers in one full charge. To recharge, simply plug it into a standard 220V power source. A wall-box charger is sold separately for a faster charging time of about 7.5 hours.

Pricing and availability

The Magnetic Red and Pearl White variants of the Nissan LEAF were showcased at the car manufacturer’s booth.

The car will be available in two other colors – Gun Metallic and Vivid Blue – It will retail for PhP 2,798,000.

Customers can avail of the new vehicle in the following dealerships: Nissan Mantrade, Nissan Global City, Nissan Manila Bay, Nissan Otis, Nissan Bacoor, Nissan Palawan, Nissan Abad Santos, Nissan Cebu Northl, Nissan Matina,  andNissan Tagum.

Apple Music has announced a partnership with Mercedes-Benz that will bring Apple Music’s Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos to models of the luxury car manufacturer.

This means Mercedes-Maybach models, the EQS and EQS SUV, as well as the EQE and the S-Class will have the Spatial Audio fully integrated into their MBUX infotainment systems.

In fact, the limited-edition Mercedes-Maybach by Virgil Alboh which was released last month was one of the first cars in the world – and the first in the Mercedes-Benz lineup – to have Spatial Audio, delivering studio-quality sound and an immersive audio experience for drivers.

The particular model features the high-end Burmester 4D sound system which includes a whopping 31 speakers, broken down into the following:

  • Six (6) 3D speakers that emit sound from above
  • Four (4) near-ear speakers in the front seats
  • One (1) 18.5-liter subwoofer
  • Eight (10 sound transducers (two per seat)
  • Two (2) amplifiers

This technology will be rolled out to other models soon.

What’s even better is that Mercedes-Benz drivers who are already subscribed to Apple Music can gain immediate access to songs and albums available on Spatial Audio, on top of being able to listen to Apple Music’s entire catalog of about 100 million songs.

Celebrating spesh occasions with the Ford Territory https://www.gadgetmatch.com/ford-territory-drive-ride-experience/ Mon, 15 Aug 2022 01:55:37 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=145729 Friends, blue skies, and creature comforts for a cozy drive down south

The post Celebrating spesh occasions with the Ford Territory appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
I can still remember the first time I rode the Ford Territory. I was astounded by the vehicle’s creature comforts that gave drivers and passengers a cozy experience.

We traversed between cities, looking for good food. Despite the hellish traffic that comes with driving in Metro Manila, we were entertained by the technology packed inside the automobile.

More than a year later, the Ford Territory found its way to my garage. It’s like a gift of adventure, in time for my birthday.

Day 1

9:00 am. south kids, ready to go.

July 23. It was a Saturday morning when I received a call from my best friend, Mark, asking me to get ready. They arrived shortly and tried to wind down watching Netflix at home while I prepare everything we need for the trip.

The last time I celebrated my birthday was three years ago. When the pandemic robbed us of time and moments to be with the people we love, I found it difficult to find joy in glamorizing my day. As the world eases up, I knew I had to take this chance to get out and be fabulous.

Before we set off for an adventure down south, we took a photo in front of the Territory.

It was only the three of us who are going for a ride, though. Two of my friends, Oliver and Marlon, weren’t able to join my momentous occasion due to a conflict in the schedule but they decided to stop by and greet me.

10:00 am. navigator at your service.

We were headed to pick up the parents of my godson along Santana Grove in Parañaque. Of course, I wasn’t the driver. I took on the shotgun to be the navigator and the DJ. And so I can always look at myself in the side mirror.

The first half of the trip consisted of exploring the Territory’s technology. A drive isn’t complete without good music, so we used Apple CarPlay in its infotainment system to connect our iPhones. Plenty of devices can get in the way of easily connecting your iPhone to the vehicle, but it’s still easy to pair.

READ: 13 Reasons Why I keep coming back to an iPhone

What we found troublesome was using both Maps and Spotify. The music gets interrupted whenever Maps prompts with a new direction to take. Since music is more important to us, I used my Android phone to use Maps and have a separate, dedicated navigation tool.

If you have a car mount like Moshi’s SnapTo Universal Car Mount, you can clip it so it’ll hold your smartphone.

11:30 am. blue skies.

Our destination for the weekend was Calatagan. That means we have to pass through Tagaytay, which is horrible on the weekends. We took several detours and long cuts just so we have to make it to our favorite stop, Mahogany, in time to meet our other friends driving their sedan.

Finally seeing good weather, we blasted ‘Teenage Dream’ by Katy Perry and opened the windows, as well as the sunroof, while traversing CALAX.

I was already having a good time, and it was just the morning.

1:00 pm. time for bulalô.

Our mood went down; energies depleted. We finally encountered Tagaytay’s unbearable traffic on the weekends. It took us at least half an hour to arrive at Mahogany Beer Market, and we even struggled with finding a parking slot.

When we found a space to park, I loved how the Ford Territory assisted us, thanks to its Ford Co-Pilot 360, an advanced suite of standard driver-assist technologies. Parking in reverse — parallel even — allows the screen to provide a simulated aerial view of the Territory’s surroundings on the screen.

The Mahogany Beef Market is popular for serving fresh meat such as beef, chicken, and pork. On the second floor of the beef market, you can find a slew of food stalls serving Bulalô — a Filipino soup dish made from beef leg bones and marrow.

Mahogany wasn’t fancy in any way, but the food is overwhelmingly delicious and they serve it at a cheaper price compared to restaurants found in Tagaytay. The place is also nostalgic. I remember my drunken nights from Papa Doms, stopping over at Mahogany so I can get sober.

READ: 24 Hours in Tagaytay

3:00 pm. safe drives in the rain.

It took us more than an hour to reach Calatagan coming from Tagaytay. The drive was filled with chill OPM blasting through its speakers. We weren’t able to use the sunroof since we encountered heavy rains and thunderstorms when passing through Nasugbu.

The infotainment system came in handy when I was adjusting the vehicle’s air-conditioning system, the ambient lighting, and sometimes, the seat’s heater. My friend kept increasing my seat’s heater while I try to take a nap, which annoyed me since my butt’s getting really warm.

On another note, my friend was able to keep his eyes on the road and take control of the vehicle’s settings even if we were all asleep, thanks to the easily reachable buttons in and around the steering wheel.

4:00 pm. hello, calatagan.

By four in the afternoon, we were able to arrive at our destination called The Beach along Lucsuhin-Hukay Rd. There are military checkpoints along the way, so be sure to stop when they tell you to do so — even if you’re obstructing the traffic. They’re pretty angsty if you’re considerate of other vehicles.

Nevertheless, the staff at The Beach greeted us with a welcoming smile when we arrived. Even in the lobby, the staff were polite, courteous, and accommodating. When we got the keys to our room, we were served refreshments while we bask at the sound of the waves crashing down the shores, along with the murmurs of friends and families chatting and having fun.

We tried to settle in and change our clothes so we can relax.

6:00 pm. dillydallying at the beach.

As the sun sets, we were vibing, dancing to the beat, and drinking beer, while gawking at the scenery unraveling before us.

When the night came, we ate our freshly-served dinner and I blew the candles from the cake my friends surprised me with. It’s funny how they stole the Instax films I have at home as my cake’s topper to make it really about me.

My birthday night ended with moments of revelry, alcohol, music, and good companionship. I couldn’t ask for more.

Day 2

07:00 am. mornings by the beach.

The Beach, home to aesthetically-pleasing sets and decors, looked immaculate when I went out to enjoy the rising sun. The sea was calm, the breeze was cool, and there are happy vibes all over the place.

The resort offers a freshly-brewed Kapeng Barako, a coffee varietal grown in Batangas province coming from the Coffea Liberica species. There’s also a complimentary breakfast for the guests.

The Beach had an Instagrammable dining area by the sea, and we opted to eat our breakfast there.

9:00 am. laughter and splashes.

Making the most out of our stay, we decided to head to the beach. We weren’t thrilled with the kayak, and instead, we swam up to the inflatable which proved to be challenging for almost everyone trying to make their way up.

We took several photos, had fun splashing around, and enjoyed swimming.

Moments later, we decided to try the Infinity pool. Of course, we still had our photos taken.

12:00 pm. it’s time to go.

Check-out is at 12 noon. We dressed up because we were a little extra. We took group photos in several parts of the resort to commemorate the celebration.

Of course, we all posed in front of the Ford Territory. Rising pop-rock sensation, Noela, and her boyfriend stood out of the sunroof. If this was a 7-seater, we would’ve really enjoyed using only one vehicle, and our drives may have been filled with waves of laughter and stories.

2:00 pm. wind in my hair, i was there.

We were on the way home, and there were only three of us inside the Territory since the couple we picked up before were joining my friend in another vehicle. We were taking separate ways after eating our lunch at Tagaytay, again.

A post shared by MJ (@hemjaye)

I took this moment to sing along to my favorite songs, as I open the sunroof. We were savoring the cool breeze despite the blazing heat of the sun. It was literally a Taylor Swift moment of “Wind in my hair, I was there” because I remember it all too well.

4:00 pm. do you have oat milk?

Like on ‘Death By A Thousand Cuts’, we took a long way home. But no, we didn’t ask the traffic lights if it’ll be alright. We passed by Amadeo, the coffee capital of the Philippines. We stopped over by Kaffe Belardo so my friends can buy their coffee beans.

I bought a ready-to-go beverage, taking a sip of their cold brew mixed with almond and oat milk. It’s rare to see local cafes offering milk options, especially for those allergic to regular, fresh milk.

With the scent of coffee and the cool breeze thanks to a lineup of trees surrounding the highway, Amadeo is a good place to drive when you just want to get away from it all. I wish I went here when I was losing myself before.

9:00 pm. singing in the car, getting lost upstate.

The Sunday traffic was arguably hellish, especially if you’re down south. The full tank was almost depleted after over a hundred-kilometer drive, which made us giddy since we didn’t have to stop over at gas stations to refuel while we were on our way. It made the trip efficient, and our planned schedule was followed — even with bumper-to-bumper traffic.

The Ford Territory offers a cozy experience — whether you’re a driver or a passenger. It makes being on the road fun and comfortable, thanks to its creature comforts that are easily accessible to anyone. Moreover, the technology infused in the vehicle makes everyone feel safe.

I never pegged the Territory as a long-drive companion, but it proved that it can handle city drives and road trips excellently, more than what we asked for.

The post Nissan Kicks e-POWER given test drives before Philippines release appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
Ahead of its launch in the Philippines in August 2022, the Nissan Kicks e-POWER was given a test drive by members of the media during a two-day event held at the Clark International Speedway in Pampanga.

The hybrid compact SUV features a fully electric motor-driven e-POWER system wherein the wheels run on an electric motor. Separate from this is a gasoline engine whose sole purpose is to charge the lithium-ion battery, which eliminates the need for plug-in charging for hours and leads to an efficient and quiet ride.

The Kicks e-POWER also sports an innovative e-Pedal Step technology; here, drivers will only have to use the accelerator to move forward by stepping down. The car also automatically stops when the pedal is released, without even having to step on the brakes.

Aside from these, the car also features Nissan’s Intelligent Mobility technologies, such as:

  • Rear cross traffic alert (Premium Plus)
  • Intelligent cruise control (Premium Plus)
  • Blind spot warning (Premium Plus)
  • Intelligent emergency braking
  • Intelligent driver alertness
  • Intelligent trace control

Design wise, the Kicks e-POWER has both a modern 8-inch NissanConnect Infotainment System and 7-inch TFT Full Color Instrument Display, on top of its stylish interiors which includes a D-shaped multi-function steering wheel.

The impending release of the Kicks e-POWER in the Philippines is part of Nissan’s long-term goal of electrifying Nissan vehicles by 2030, and to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

The car has already been introduced in Japan earlier this year, while it is also available in Singapore as well starting at SG$ 142,800 – or roughly more than PhP 5 million.

8 car care tips during rainy season https://www.gadgetmatch.com/car-care-tips-honda-sensing-rainy-season/ Tue, 21 Jun 2022 01:23:45 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=143217 Keep your vehicle in pristine condition!

The post 8 car care tips during rainy season appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
Taking care of your car, especially during heavy downpours, is just like taking care of your body — it goes a long way when done right. Driving during the rainy season is quite cumbersome. Here are some tips to keep your vehicle in pristine condition.

Clean that windshield

Most accidents are attributed to poor visibility. I know, I’ve been in one. After letting the rainwater dry up in your windshield, the mineral deposits accumulate and turn into dirt. This kind of neglect often leads to accidents, which is why it’s important to properly clean your windshield.

It pays off to have it cleaned on a regular basis, hopefully avoiding that build-up of dirt and dust. Or better yet, invest in window detailing. After all, a clean window gives you a better view of your surroundings.

Don’t forget to check your wipers

Part of maintenance is checking your wiper blades since they’re responsible for keeping your windshield and rear windows free from water and other contaminants. Since it can last anywhere from six months to a year (on average), you can always give a look and check if they’re due for replacement.

Clean those headlamps, too!

Having well-maintained headlights is a must during heavy downpours. It’s important to achieve optimum visibility during rain showers. Headlamps can get hazy or cloudy over time due to the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays and built-up grime (ew).

Some people would think the sole purpose of cleaning the headlamp is for appearance, but the truth is it should be regularly cleaned to maintain its proper function. Having clean headlamps will provide you with a well-lit pathway while driving in the rain.

Furthermore, you should always check your headlight bulbs for damages or if they need replacement.

Pay attention to your car’s battery

Have you experienced difficulty starting your car… in the middle of the road… in a heavy downpour? *panics internally*

This situation can be avoided if you pay attention to your car battery’s lifespan, which sometimes gets shorter due to the corrosion caused by humidity and potential droplets splashing during the rainy season. When the symptoms kick in, it’s about time you get ready lest you find yourself stranded.

Assess the quality of your tires

Make it a practice — or a habit — to ensure proper inflation every two weeks. Over- or under-inflated tires can lead to reduced traction and early wear. And we all know (or maybe you don’t) that vehicle traction is important to have that maximum gripping power during the rainy season. Yes, it can only be achieved when you have well-maintained tires.

Also, don’t forget to check the tire pressure of your spare!

Brake check, please!

Most accidents happen because brakes fail — but whose fault is that? Brakes take longer to dry during rainy situations. If you notice any squeaking or any grinding noises while braking, it’s clearly a sign you should have your vehicle checked immediately. What if your brake pads need a replacement?

Moreover, braking in the rain doesn’t work as quickly as it would on a dry or humid day. Remember to drive slower than usual and set a distance in between cars. Let go of that bumper-to-bumper traffic. We’re not Ariana Grande on “Honeymoon Avenue”.

Find the right car insurance

Prevention is better than cure. We’ve all heard that — and that’s primarily what insurance offers. It’s always better to be ready than sorry. For peace of mind, you should trust the right insurance for your vehicle.

For instance, there’s the Honda SENSING Insurance that’s available for Honda vehicles equipped with Honda SENSING such as the All-New HR-V, All-New Civic, CR-V, Accord, and the Civic Type R.

Honda partnered with AXA Philippines and BPI MS Insurance to offer preferential rates (starting at PhP 2,119 per month) for comprehensive insurance to customers who will purchase models with Honda’s advanced safety technology. Of course, there are different car insurance available, and programs like this are limited since this one, in particular, is being offered until December 31, 2022.

Again, it’s important to find the right car insurance. There are plenty, so research, learn a lot of details, and trust your instinct if it’s the right one. You know what’s best for your baby.

Wash and wax your car

I know it seems pointless to clean your car if it’s going to get dirty again, but it’s still rewarding to do so. Admittedly, I used to have that mindset until I’ve practiced rigorous self-care and started believing that if I made strenuous efforts to take care of my body, it should apply to my personal stuff too — gadgets, cars, appliances, furniture, et al.

Adding a protective layer of wax can help keep rain marks from forming, and makes it easier to clean the car after the rain. Seriously, it’s not just plain cosmetics at all. Wash and wax it up, folks!

Nissan’s e-POWER technology presents a new way to drive https://www.gadgetmatch.com/nissan-e-power-technology-ev-philippines/ Sun, 19 Jun 2022 23:17:36 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=143146 Drive like an electric vehicle -- powerful, smooth, and quiet -- without the need for external charging!

The post Nissan’s e-POWER technology presents a new way to drive appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
Following the success of Nissan’s electric vehicle (EV) technology through the Nissan LEAF, the company brings e-POWER.

It’s a 100 percent electric motor-driven system, aiming to deliver an EV-like drive without needing external charging, potentially opening the gateway to full EV ownership.

Nissan’s proof of innovation in the field of electrification

With e-POWER, the wheels are completely powered by the electric motor. The electricity for propulsion is generated by a highly-efficient gasoline engine, operating primarily to charge the high-performance lithium-ion battery pack.

The system also provides excellent fuel efficiency due to the fact that the gasoline engine is set to run at an optimal speed, operating only when the battery needs to charge.

Moreover, e-POWER delivers powerful acceleration, and a smoother one, thanks to its precise electric motor control at 1/10,000 per second.

A different kind of control

The technology also provides a new level of control. With the e-Pedal Step feature, drivers can accelerate and decelerate using only the accelerator pedal. The feature makes driving convenient in stop-and-go traffic and speeding through highways.

Furthermore, the feature is high on making the system fuel-efficient. The e-Pedal Step has regenerative braking, which generates electricity even with a slight deceleration.

Quiet, versatile system

The e-POWER system prides itself on quieter trips as compared to a traditional gasoline-powered car since it’s powered by a battery pack. It’s dedicated to keeping things quiet by monitoring the wheels to assess road roughness and activating the onboard engine when road noise increases. Thus, charging the battery without disrupting the cabin.

Additionally, e-POWER takes pride in being a versatile system, providing three driving modes. First is Sport Mode (S Mode), which prioritizes the motorist’s driving style while taking advantage of regenerative braking. Next is ECO Mode, which conserves battery by balancing acceleration smoothness and regenerative braking. Last is Standard Mode, which highlights acceleration with modest regenerative braking.

A revolutionary technology

Nissan’s e-POWER technology combines the efficiency of the Japanese car maker’s gasoline engines and the driving dynamics of an electric vehicle like the LEAF. It revolutionized the existing technology by further reducing the weight of the components, developing more responsive motor control methods, and optimizing overall energy management.

Nissan is moving towards its vision of bringing the future of mobility closer and making it more accessible to Filipinos. And it starts with the introduction of this revolutionary technology into the Philippine archipelago.

A glimpse on the future of motorcycles https://www.gadgetmatch.com/lycan-g6-motorcycle-filipino-startup/ Wed, 08 Jun 2022 12:37:46 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=142730 Lycan takes on its ambitious desire to bring the first Filipino smart motorcycle

The post A glimpse on the future of motorcycles appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
It was like a scene straight out of a sci-fi movie. A futuristic motorbike greets me as I enter the garage of Lycan, the first all-Filipino independent motorcycle and technology company.

The sound of the welding machine fusing the parts of an avant-garde motorbike echoes like a chant in a campaign rally. It was invigorating, filling my body with effervescence; enthusiastic to meet the people behind Lycan in their headquarters in Quezon City.

The promise of a connected tomorrow

A few weeks ago, I caught a glimpse of what could be the future of motorcycles in the Philippines. GadgetMatch had a sit-down with Jaggy Gangat, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Lycan Motors, and JM Grefaldo, the company’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO).

Gangat vividly remembered how Lycan started; a custom garage understanding what the market needs. Gangat was certainly part of the market, being a rider before more than an entrepreneur. With his background in business, strategic thinking, love for motorcycles, and desire to create an impact — Gangat was filled with idealism as he birthed Lycan.

But it wasn’t a simple, spontaneous plan that abruptly came to fruition, like those enacted in the movies. Gangat knew having a Filipino-made motorcycle isn’t enough.

Grefaldo came into the picture to make Lycan stand out. The answer was technology, or rather, making motorcycles smart. “Lycan wouldn’t be Lycan without technology and JM,” says Gangat as he vehemently introduced his CTO.

Gangat and Grefaldo believe in putting Filipinos one step closer to the future. The two shared the promise of a connected tomorrow; their eyes flickering with excitement like a star-eyed emoji as they discussed what they were about to bring in the nearest future.

From futuristic experiences of showcasing their motorcycles to a modern approach to purchasing a vehicle — Lycan wants to use technology to propel the Filipinos to a better tomorrow.

Artificial intelligence (AI) at Lycan’s core

Ah, artificial intelligence. That tech jargon usually gets lost in translation. Lycan believes most people don’t fully understand or grasp the concept of AI. I agreed ardently. People fear what they don’t understand.

But artificial intelligence is found in almost every device we have now. It makes so much sense to see a motorcycle applying the same computer system to make it smart. As a matter of fact, life got easier in terms of communication, social interaction, and doing business — thanks to our smartphones employing AI properly.

In the same way, Lycan aspires to use AI to deliver convenience and ensure safety. The Filipino start-up is working on a proprietary voice assistant akin to Siri and Alexa, dubbed Luna.

Luna AI is expected to give commands. With machine learning, it aims to hold a conversation with the rider to prevent distracted driving.

It’s bound to be paired with a smart helmet, making Luna the ears and mouth to help operate the system. With one command, Lycan’s motorcycles can activate without throttle assist.

In the nearest future, as Luna takes a more tangible shape after its development, the voice assistant will help navigate maps, exhibit the important statistics from the dashboard, integrate the data between the smartphone and mobile app, access remote diagnostics, and check the overall performance and condition of the motorcycle.

Gangat hopes to make the technology as solid as it can, like Elon Musk’s TESLA. Eventually, hopefully, the CEO dreams of a future where the motorbike can be smart enough to predict a situation, and hopefully, keep more bodies safe.

An integrated experience

Lycan is also developing its own operating system called LmoS. In full, it’s called Lycan Motorcycles Operating System, functioning as the brain of its motorcycles, and eventually, the system for Luna AI.

Aside from the smart motorcycle, the company is developing a mobile app slated to be launched later this year alongside the G6. The app will be integrated into the motorcycle and is expected to work seamlessly with the smart helmet — operated by Luna AI and connected via Bluetooth and/or WiFi connectivity.

For security purposes, Lycan is considering blockchain as a foundation to safeguard its users and the technology.

Helmet like Iron Man’s

The smart helmet is Lycan’s answer to the problem of distracted driving. A split second of taking your eyes off the road can unravel endless possibilities; one of which could be accidents happening in the blink of an eye.

While still under development, the smart helmet promises an Iron Man-like experience. The visor will have a heads-up display to give an overview of the riding experience, and to communicate with fellow smart helmet users.

Sensors are equipped inside the helmet, measuring your pulse and heart rate while communicating with the mobile app. One important thing would be its unique Smart Helmet Crash Detection technology. The helmet’s impact sensors will assess the kind of fall and the gravity of the impact.

Different levels will determine the next course of action, whether Luna will update Lycan, alert a local LGU — if the company gets to partner for emergency dispatch — or simply ask the rider about his/her/their current condition.

Personalize your motorcycles

Apart from the infusion of artificial intelligence and the application of Internet-of-Things on its products, Lycan prides itself on another innovative platform. Called BuilderX, the online configurator gives people the ability to design their motorcycles and get them personalized.

The platform aims to let people customize, save their designs, download, and place their orders. Lycan aspires to make purchasing their vehicles simpler, taking cues from the booming e-commerce platforms. The company promises to make it easy even for non-tech savvy individuals, making the process as easy as three steps: designing, ordering, and receiving.

There will also be an option to pick up the motorcycle or receive it at home. The platform was backed by Gangat’s background in customizing motorcycles, reducing costs by tapping into e-commerce instead of opening up several dealerships, and answering people’s desire for a more personalized motorcycle — shying away from designs brought by foreign brands.

Reducing carbon footprint

Like any company of tomorrow, Lycan wants to help in reducing its carbon footprint. Currently, the motorcycles are available in gasoline and hydrogen fuel-cell versions. Moving forward, Lycan is looking into a hybrid engine using hydrogen fuel cells and petroleum for internal combustion and eventually transforming into a pure hydrogen vehicle.

Concurrently, Lycan is developing batteries and engines to prepare for an EV variant. The company is looking into a 5000-kilowatt battery for high-speed electric vehicles.

A company that listens

As a start-up, Lycan offers one thing most motorcycle companies don’t: two-way communication with its consumers. Aside from the service and technology, Lycan aims to listen intently to the market. One way to prove this is the retail price that its market can afford (and potentially disrupt the industry).

The 400cc G6‘s MSRP is PhP 179,999 and reservation starts at PhP 9,850. Meanwhile, the 650cc GC6‘s MSRP is PhP 294,999 and reservation starts at PhP 19,720. Prices are subject to change.

Aside from being the company’s consumers, interested investors can take part in the growth of Lycan. See investment opportunities and be part of history as a shareholder.

Save with Honda’s fuel-efficient vehicles, PMS https://www.gadgetmatch.com/save-with-hondas-fuel-efficient-vehicles-pms/ Sat, 21 May 2022 07:59:27 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=141780 The Honda BR-V, City, and Brio

The post Save with Honda’s fuel-efficient vehicles, PMS appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
With fuel prices skyrocketing lately in the Philippines, it makes sense to invest in a fuel-efficient car complemented by regular Periodic Maintenance Service (PMS) provided by its company.

And as Honda continues to improve its vehicles’ fuel economy in different driving condition, the manufacturer is offering the following models for customers to save more:

  • Honda BR-V: 22.58 kilometers/liter
  • Honda City: 25.17 kilometers/liter
  • Honda Brio: 24.39 kilometers/liter

The models underwent fuel economy runs organized by Honda Cars Philippines in partnership with the Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP).

Among the parameters were cruising speeds of 60 to 80 kph at 1,500 to 2,000 rpm, aircon setting of 24 degrees, and blower fan speed of 1.

Periodic Maintenance Service

Aside from picking the right vehicle, Honda also recommends two maintenance visits a year at any of their authorized Honda dealers.

This way, cars will stay in shape with a good-tune up, and ensure better performance in the long run that saves owners more money.

Customers may also visit Honda’s Virtual Showroom for a more detailed guide on preventive maintenance, as well as their technologies like Honda SENSING and Honda’s driver assistance and collision avoidance.

Other tips

In addition to making the right choice and maintaining good use of one’s car, Honda suggests these following tips for a more fuel-efficient vehicle:

  • Plan and combine trips: Carpooling and using navigation apps reduces consumption and avoids rush-hour traffic
  • Drive smoothly, not aggressively: Hard breaks, sudden accelerations, and the like increase fuel consumptions and emissions
  • Minimize idling: Fuel is best consumed in motion; staying idle for too long burns fuel without getting anywhere
  • Get rid of all extra weight: The more weight the car needs to pull, the more effort the engine needs which leads to more fuel consumption

Keep tires properly inflated: A study suggested that as low as a 1 percent decrease in pressure can lead to a 0.3 percent reduction in fuel economy, so keep those tires checked

Sony and Honda officially join forces for an electric vehicle https://www.gadgetmatch.com/sony-and-honda-partnership-electric-vehicles/ Mon, 07 Mar 2022 03:55:20 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=138826 Envisioning a new car by 2025

The post Sony and Honda officially join forces for an electric vehicle appeared first on GadgetMatch.

Everyone’s getting into electric vehicles. Though electric vehicles have been around for a while now, carmakers and tech companies alike are getting renewed drives to enter the EV market. Carmakers going electric isn’t a surprise, naturally. Interested tech companies are another story, though. It’s always interesting to see how companies primarily focused on handheld devices take on the automotive industry. Pretty soon, we’ll have another company to watch in the same space. Recently, Sony and Honda have announced a partnership to make electric vehicles together.

Officially announced through Honda, the two companies have signed a “memorandum of understanding,” stating their interest in forming a venture around electric vehicles. Being just a memorandum, the understanding does not mean anything official yet besides the intent to do so.

According to the memorandum, Sony and Honda will create the new company together sometime this year. The unknown company will merely “plan, design, develop, and sell” the electric vehicle. For its part, Honda will handle the manufacturing side of things. On the other hand, Sony hopes to infuse a mobility service platform for the vehicle. The new company is expected to sell its first vehicle in 2025.

Despite focusing mostly on other industries, Sony had already declared its intentions for an electric vehicle back in 2020. During that year’s CES presentation, the company presented the Vision-S, a concept car designed to provide maneuver automotive technology with entertainment.

On the other hand, Honda already sells electric vehicles. Most recently, the carmaker launched the Honda e, a funky electric car that dazzled in its debut in 2019.

Ford splits off into two businesses https://www.gadgetmatch.com/ford-splits-off-into-two-businesses/ Thu, 03 Mar 2022 06:41:14 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=138744 One for EVs, one for legacy cars

The post Ford splits off into two businesses appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
The future of cars is electric. Though there are growing pains, several carmakers have realized the value of maintaining a healthy lineup of electric and hybrid vehicles. Traditional companies find themselves butting heads against more modern EV companies like Tesla and Polestar. To compete against the rising tide of electric vehicles, Ford has announced that it is splitting into two separate businesses: Ford Blue and Ford Model E.

One of the most established brands out there, Ford is certainly taking a huge step by establishing two businesses to delineate its internal combustion production from its electric vehicles. Ford Blue will take over production of Ford’s classic lineup. Meanwhile, Ford Model E will spearhead the brand’s push for more electric vehicles.

Kumar Galhotra, the company’s president for the Americas and International Markets Group, will pilot Ford Blue. Meanwhile, the current CEO and president, Jim Farley, will switch gears and add “president of Ford Model E” to his resume.

Beside Farley, Ford Model E has another monster in its lineup. Apple and Tesla alum Doug Field is leading the branch’s product and software creation as chief EV and digital systems officer.

Prior to the split, Ford already unleashed a few impressive vehicles to the electric market including the Mustang Mach-E. The split, however, reinforces Ford’s overall push to bring out more electric vehicles. After all, the writing is on the wall. Though slow, the world is shifting towards an eventual majority in electric vehicles opposite legacy combustion ones. Countries like the United States are ahead of the pack.

That said, the split’s announcement did not explain how it will affect Ford’s branches globally. The company already offered to transition American branches into the split lineup.

Next-gen Ford Everest comes with more driver assist tech https://www.gadgetmatch.com/next-gen-ford-everest-driver-assist-tech-specs/ Wed, 02 Mar 2022 06:12:54 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=139178 Putting safety at the heart of every adventure

The post Next-gen Ford Everest comes with more driver assist tech appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
The next-generation Ford Everest made its global debut on March 1, 2022, featuring more customer-focused technologies to deliver a comfortable and fun SUV driving experience.

The next-gen Everest shows changes both in its outside design and interior, as well as more safety features under its driver assist technology for everyone to enjoy their adventure.

More driver assist technologies

next-gen ford everest

The next-gen Everest comes with more safety features designed to help drivers stay focused on their trips without stress.

Depending on the model, the Everest features Ford’s adaptive cruise control (ACC) system with stop and go, allowing drivers to maintain a set speed and distance from the car ahead.

ACC with stop and go and lane centering, meanwhile, is able to detect lane markings to keep the vehicle centered inside the lane.

For rural or off roads, the lane-keeping system with road edge detection uses the Everest’s wide-view camera below the rearview mirror to monitor road edges 50 meters in front of the vehicle.

The system will likewise provide steering support when the SUV drives on an unpaved surface like grass or gravel to prevent drifting.

Less collisions

next-gen ford everest

The blind spot information system (BLIS) uses built-in taillight sensors that alert the driver when a vehicle is detected in the blind spot for better lane-switching while avoiding collisions.

When in reverse, cross-traffic alert warns of traffic approaching from the sides to provide more safety.

The pre-collision assist with intersection has been enhanced for the next-gen Everest as well, using camera technology to detect potential collision with either a vehicle, pedestrian or cyclist directly in front.

Automatic emergency braking (AEB) will also come into play while increasing brake-assist sensitivity. In a worst-case scenario, the system will apply brakes automatically to at least reduce the severity of collision.

And if ever, post-collision braking applies brakes after a collision to reduce the risk of another collision.

Perfect parking

next-gen ford everest

The next-gen Everest also has active park assist 2.0 that guides the vehicle into parallel or perpendicular spots with the press of a button.

Sensors will detect the appropriate parking space and autonomously steer the vehicle into the space. The  driver doesn’t have to worry about steering, accelerating, gear shifting, and braking.

To take over manually, the driver only has to apply the brake. Driver can also take their finger off the Active Park Assist button.

Driving out of the parking space can also be done by the system. Simple select N for neutral and activate the system.

Reverse brake assist also helps drivers reversing into parking slots with audible and visual warnings. It can even bring the vehicle to a complete stop if it detects objects behind the vehicle.

Designed for adventure

next-gen ford everest

Aside from the driver assist technology features, the next-gen Everest features integrated wireless charging and an electric parking brake for its high-series models.

The SUV comes with up to a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a high-resolution portrait touch screen of up to 12 inches.

It is loaded with Ford’s latest SYNC 4A system that has voice-activated communication capabilities, as well as functions for both entertainment and information.

And when linked with the FordPass App, owners may be able to do remote start, remote lock and unlock, and more via their mobile devices.

More power

next-gen ford everest

Ford’s proven 3.0L turbodiesel V6 engine was refined for the Everest to cater to customers’ need for more power and torque.

The 3.0L turbodiesel engine will be one of many choices for customers. It Includes the Single-Turbo and Bi-Turbo 2.0 inline four-cylinder diesels and a 2.3L EcoBoost petrol engine available starting in 2023.

Depending on the model, either a six-speed automatic or Ford’s efficient 10-speed SelectShift automatic will be available.

As the next-gen Everest is also tailor-made for off-road drives, it was a water wading ability of up to 800 mm.

The SUV has dedicated off-road screen displays that show information and a front-camera view of the terrain ahead plus additional functions to help guide that driver.

The stand-off roof rails are engineered to support static (up to 35kg) and dynamic loads (up to 100kg). It can carry bikes, canoes, or tents may be carried easily.

Back to the Future’s DeLorean returns to making cars in 2022 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/delorean-back-to-the-future-return-2022/ Wed, 16 Feb 2022 07:23:18 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=137872 Iconic car comes back as an EV

The post Back to the Future’s DeLorean returns to making cars in 2022 appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
Name the most iconic cars from Hollywood. A million to one, that list will probably include Back to the Future’s iconic time machine modeled after the DeLorean. Decades after the original motoring company declared bankruptcy, the car itself is still one of the most recognizable profiles in motoring history. Now, the blast from the past is about to travel forward in time to our present.

Before everyone’s favorite hype machine, the Super Bowl, the DeLorean Motor Company announced a return to what made it famous all those years ago. The 15-second teaser showed a silhouette of the original car’s gull-wing doors preceded by the tagline “The Future was never promised.”

Though the teaser is scant on details, a follow-up tweet confirms that the silhouetted car is actually a luxury electric vehicle. Doc Brown should jump for joy at this news. He doesn’t have to fight Libyan terrorists for plutonium anymore.

According to the tweet, the new vehicle will debut later this year. Those interested can follow their site to hunt for updates.

Though the original company filed for bankruptcy way back in 1982, a newer (but unaffiliated to the original) version of the DeLorean Motor Company exists solely to support enthusiasts who still own a working DeLorean from the original run of 9,000 cars. The new company was even partially responsible for the auto-lacing sneakers from Nike a few years back.

Now, with this announcement, the new DeLorean Motoring Company has a fresh reason to exist. Though the debut might not put out a ubiquitous vehicle, a limited run might still end up as an iconic driver for today. Just be careful that you don’t accidentally travel back to 1955.

Qualcomm announces surprising partnership with Ferrari https://www.gadgetmatch.com/qualcomm-ferrari-partnership-snapdragon-digital-chassis/ Thu, 10 Feb 2022 06:45:43 +0000 https://www.gadgetmatch.com/?p=137601 For smart cars and the F1 team

The post Qualcomm announces surprising partnership with Ferrari appeared first on GadgetMatch.

]]>
Less than two months into the year, we’re already getting some strange crossovers. For example, Microsoft recently acquired Activision Blizzard, a strange pairing in the gaming industry. Now, we turn our eyes to the automotive industry. Ferrari has inked a surprising partnership with Qualcomm for a run of smart cars.

Qualcomm is calling it “a strategic technology collaboration” wherein the company will lend its smart automotive solutions to Ferrari’s production of smarter road cars. For its part, Ferrari will adopt the Snapdragon Digital Chassis for its lineup of vehicles which will include cloud-based telematics and features for safety and driving experience.

Both companies will customize the digital cockpit experience to cater to Ferrari’s discerning customers. However, because the partnership is still fresh, neither Qualcomm nor Ferrari have described what the digital cockpit might look like, or which cars will grab the new system. That said, it should be exciting to see how Qualcomm’s smart systems will look in the luxury brand.

Besides the application in road cars, the partnership will also allow Qualcomm to become a partner for Ferrari’s Scuderia Ferrari F1 team starting this year’s season. Snapdragon will feature in the team’s F1-75 single-seaters.

It’s definitely a surprising partnership. The biggest players in the smart car niche market aren’t usually from the usual slate of luxury brands, even if luxury brands are already outing smart cars into their lineup.

Back in the day, cars on television could do so much more than their real-life counterparts. From the gadget-filled sports cars in James Bond to a reforming car with memory metal in CSI, the human imagination has created a lot of impressive cars that haven’t made it to mass production yet. Of course, with technology progressing far beyond what we previously imagined, cars that were formerly just figments of our imagination can now be realized. During CES 2022, we saw one of these cars come to life through BMW’s amazing color-changing car.

A concept version of a known BMW line, the BMW iX Flow uses E Ink technology to change how the car’s exterior looks. The car contains millions of microcapsules as thin as a strand of hair. Much like the E Ink you’ll find inside a Kindle, electricity causes the microcapsules to shift between black or white.

@klwtts

COLOR CHANGING PAINT ⚫⚪ #BMW #IX

♬ original sound – The Kilowatts

Since E Ink is relatively limited, the BMW iX Flow can shift only between three colors: black, gray, and white. Drivers can change this with a press of a button.

Now, besides the general badass-ery of having a color-changing car, BMW claims that cycling through the different colors can also help interior temperature. Since white reflects more sunlight, using the color might help cool the vehicle more in sunny situations. Alternatively, using black can help heat the car for passengers.

Unfortunately, BMW can’t promise a timeline for such a vehicle. It’s still just an “advanced research and design” project, even if they already have an actual car with the technology (as shown in this TikTok video).
