The Indian government introduced a new restriction (via Reuters) against the importation of “laptops, tablets, all-in-one personal computers, and ultra-small form factor computers and servers” made from other countries. Customers, however, will get an exemption. Airline passengers can still bring in these devices in their luggage. Additionally, a single imported device is allowable when bought through e-commerce platforms. Companies can import their products only by applying for a special license.

In a nutshell, bulk orders without a license are out. The government is instead encouraging users to buy locally produced products as part of its “Make in India” program. At the very least, it’s not a total ban on foreign brands. For example, Dell, HP, and Lenovo are exempt from the regulations since they already have production facilities built in the country.

For the first time ever, an animated feature film will be competing for the full-length category this 2023, anchoring on this year’s theme, “Ilumi Nasyon”

Iti Mapukpukaw (which translates to The Missing in Ilocano), tells the story of Eric, a mouthless young man whose life is untangled after the arrival of a familiar alien.

During his interview at Ang Walang Kwentang Podcast, Director Carlo Joseph Papa said that he worked with over 90 animators for the film which is made via rotoscope. Rotoscope is an animation method created by tracing over frame by frame of live-action footage.

The film stars Carlo Aquino and theater actor Gio Gahol, including Academy member and Golden Globe and BAFTA Award-nominee Dolly De Leon.

Cinemalaya will be screened at Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) this year, while the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) is under renovation. You can also watch the competing films at CCP’s Black Box Theater and selected Ayala Mall Cinemas.

The automotive company delivered a strong retail performance for the first half of the year in the Philippines. Thanks to its Next-Generation vehicle lineup, Ford Philippines’s retail sales rose 55 percent from a year ago to 13,838 vehicles.

The Next-Generation Ranger became Ford’s top-selling vehicle in the country, with sales growing by 25 percent year-on-year to 5,436 units sold. The addition of the Next-Generation Ranger Raptor also boosted retail performance, with sales reaching close to 600 units since its launch in late May.

Furthermore, the newly-launched Next-Generation Territory contributed to Ford’s strong sales as well. Like its predecessors, it’s still the leading small SUV in the Philippines, with sales increasing by 22 percent to 4,493 units. The Next-Gen model also breached the 2,500-unit mark in less than three months after its launch at the Manila International Auto Show.

Meanwhile, the Ford Everest continues to thrive in the competitive mid-size SUV segment. It delivered strong sales performance, growing by 503 percent from last year to 3,786 vehicles.
