The newest set of Galaxy A series smartphones launched in various markets on March 17. Each market had its own set of A-series phones. For Malaysia it’s the following: Galaxy A72, Galaxy A52, Galaxy A32, and Galaxy A32 5G.

We’ve got the low down for you in this video.

But if you don’t feel like watching, here’s a quick rundown of everything that’s coming to Malaysia.

Galaxy A32 and Galaxy A32 5G

The Galaxy A32 5G shares components and specs comparable to flagships from the past with some features from flagships of the present. It’s rocking a 6.5inch HD+ PLS TFC LCD display with a 60Hz refresh rate. Housed inside its Infinity-V display is a 13MP f/2.2 selfie shooter.

On the back it’s rocking a quad-camera setup: 48MP f/1.8 main, 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide, 5MP f/2.4 macro, and 2MP f/2.4 depth. It goes up to 8GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage that’s expandable up to 1TB.  Supporting all these is a 5,000mAh battery.

Galaxy A52

The Galaxy A52 carries the legacy of the Galaxy A51 — one of Samsung’s best-selling handsets in 2020. It stays true to its earworm of a song which says it has an awesome screen (6.5-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED, 120Hz), awesome camera (Front: 32MP f/2.2, Rear: 64MP f/1.8 main, 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide, 5MP f/2.4 macro, and 5MP f/2.4 depth), and long-lasting battery life (4,500mAh battery with power optimization via ONE UI 3).

Study: Smartphones least affordable in Philippines, Vietnam

About two months’ worth of salary

Published

Xiaomi 12 Pro

With inflation rates skyrocketing everywhere lately, consumers wonder how much spending power has been generally affected.

Well, a recent iPrice study, “Highly Connected, But Highly Priced: Smartphones Out of Reach for Many in SEA”, revealed that when it comes to smartphone affordability, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Indonesia lag behind considerably.

The study took into account the salaries of workers in the three countries, and found out that mid-range smartphones cost twice an employee’s monthly salary on average.

In the same countries, high-end smartphones come as expensive investments, as they cost anywhere between about three to six times the monthly average salary of workers.

Study Smartphone

And as if adding insult to injury, the prices of phones top brands like Apple, OPPO, vivo, and Samsung are generally higher in the Philippines and Indonesia compared to other countries in the region.

This leads to consumers opting for postpaid plans from telecom providers, capitalizing on the free device in exchange of a two-year lock-in period.

The finding is a stark contrast to the same smartphones’ affordability in Singapore and Malaysia. In those two peninsular countries, phones cost only about a third of an employee’s monthly average salary.

The main takeaway from the study is: average monthly salaries do not only differ from one ASEAN country to another; for some reason, products and services in countries with less spending power also cost more. Life is unfair, isn’t it?
