OPPO launches an Avengers-themed F11 Pro

Currently limited to Malaysia

Published

Last month, OPPO launched the F11 Pro. The new smartphone flaunts an improved 48-megapixel pop-up camera worthy of its price. Given the company’s recent canning of the R series, the F11 Pro shows a lot of promise for the brand’s smartphone future. OPPO still has its sights set on market domination.

However, the smartphone’s recent release offers another timely opportunity for the brand. In just one to two weeks, the year’s most awaited movie, Avengers: Endgame, will open in theaters around the globe. As always, a new Marvel flick is a prime branding opportunity for a lot of companies. Like others, OPPO is capitalizing on the blockbuster opening.

In Malaysia, OPPO has announced the launch of a limited-edition variant for the F11 Pro. The Marvel’s Avengers Limited Edition sports a snazzy blue back with a red Avengers logo. The variant launched with a promotional video interspersed with shots from the movie’s trailers. Unfortunately, the video does not include the edition’s specifications or bundled accessories.

Very likely, the variant will carry the same specs as the regular F11 Pro. However, given the promotion, the device will likely come with Marvel-themed accessories.

Currently, OPPO is the only one offering an Avengers-themed device. However, more devices might pop up as we draw closer to the opening date. Last year, OnePlus and Acer both released limited editions of their own devices to promote Avengers: Infinity War.

The OPPO F11 Pro carries a Helio P70 processor, 6GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage. The battery clocks in a capacity of 4000mAh. However, the Marvel’s Avengers Limited Edition will likely carry a more premium price tag.

Study: Smartphones least affordable in Philippines, Vietnam

About two months’ worth of salary

Published

Xiaomi 12 Pro

With inflation rates skyrocketing everywhere lately, consumers wonder how much spending power has been generally affected.

Well, a recent iPrice study, “Highly Connected, But Highly Priced: Smartphones Out of Reach for Many in SEA”, revealed that when it comes to smartphone affordability, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Indonesia lag behind considerably.

The study took into account the salaries of workers in the three countries, and found out that mid-range smartphones cost twice an employee’s monthly salary on average.

In the same countries, high-end smartphones come as expensive investments, as they cost anywhere between about three to six times the monthly average salary of workers.

Study Smartphone

And as if adding insult to injury, the prices of phones top brands like Apple, OPPO, vivo, and Samsung are generally higher in the Philippines and Indonesia compared to other countries in the region.

This leads to consumers opting for postpaid plans from telecom providers, capitalizing on the free device in exchange of a two-year lock-in period.

The finding is a stark contrast to the same smartphones’ affordability in Singapore and Malaysia. In those two peninsular countries, phones cost only about a third of an employee’s monthly average salary.

The main takeaway from the study is: average monthly salaries do not only differ from one ASEAN country to another; for some reason, products and services in countries with less spending power also cost more. Life is unfair, isn’t it?
