Anniversaries & Milestones

Published

on

GadgetMatch celebrates its second anniversary this month.

While we started off as a YouTube Channel in September of 2014, it wasn’t till a year later in August of 2015 that we began our journey as a tech media company. Much has happened since but our mission remains the same — to match users with the right gadgets to fit their needs.

The year thus far has been amazing for us:

  • On March 30, we breached 100K subscribers on YouTube.
  • This July, we also hit 300K likes on Facebook, making us one of the largest tech news sites on Facebook in Southeast Asia.
  • Our team has also grown considerably from three full time members to ten. New additions include Isa Rodriguez (Lifestyle Editor), Leez Escalona (Project Manager), Alven Villavicencio (Accounts Manager), Daniel Morial (Content Creator), and Kevin Bruce Francisco (Multimedia Producer).

As we continue to strive towards more milestones, we want to thank you all for taking this journey with us. Whether you were here from the start or are a new addition, we are grateful to have you on board.

As a way to give back, we have resumed weekly gadget giveaways via our Scavenger Hunt. We’re also working on merchandise and other awesome ways to bring the whole community together, details of which we will be announcing very soon.

‘Dewing Things Alone’ is the wallpaper for rainy season

Sometimes, you just gotta love the rain

Changing your wallpapers to suit the weather is perfectly valid behavior. If you’re in the mood to switch your wallpaper this rainy season, here’s one for you.

Angelikah Gustilo, the Philippine-based artist behind our well-loved Pride wallpapers, came up with yet another wallpaper to match your emotions.

Entitled “Dewing Things Alone”, this set of wallpapers evokes a feeling of comfort and being at home. It captures that serenity and peace you enjoy as the rain pours, living in the comfort of yourself and connecting on a mundane yet meaningful level.

To Gustilo, rainy days have always been a source of comfort as an only child. The rainy season gave her books which transported her to places, and hot drinks that made her warm and giddy — enough to ponder and look out of the windows and imagine what awaits when the storm is over.

These wallpapers are her own take on loving the rainy season, and she hopes there are people who can relate to her love for the rain.

GadgetMatch’s wallpaper ‘Fluid’ is a coming out story

GadgetMatch’s wallpaper for Pride Month embraces being queer

Published

Happy Pride Month from the GadgetMatch team!

Continuing our celebration with the LGBTQ+ community, we have one more wallpaper to share.

Introducing Fluid, the artwork explores the concept of one’s sexuality — forever changing, forever molding, and forever discovering. The rainbow pattern is speckled with grain, suggesting noise as the obstacles in the journey to self-love and self-discovery.

On another note, the words “Let Me Be Perfectly Queer” are a nod to allowing yourself to embrace your authentic self without reservations. It’s choosing to let go of painful moments — and memories — that forced you to stay silent.

Fluid reminds us to allow ourselves to grow in the love we feel, even if it’s scary and different. The artwork is designed by Philippine-based artist, Angelikah Gustilo, who is also behind No Different, the wallpaper we released previously.

“In the last semester of my third year in University, I took a class by Alfred Marasigan and Hidde van der Wall titled Art of the Queer. The course allowed me to be less afraid of my own self-exploration journey, and I’m grateful to be able to showcase these simple pieces that are the gems of wisdom I took away from the class,” said Gustilo.

GadgetMatch’s wallpaper ‘No Different’ celebrates love and queer people

It’s all about embracing individuality

Happy Pride Month from the GadgetMatch team!

As part of celebrating love, freedom, and the LGBTQ+ community, we’ve asked an artist to create an artwork that depicts Pride.

Angelikah Gustilo, an artist based in the Philippines, came up with No Different. To Gustilo, No Different presents queer people as people — capable of loving despite the difference in orientation.

Through geometric shapes, Gustilo presented that being queer isn’t dictated by a certain look, or a certain manner you carry yourself. It’s being different; deviating from what the majority of society thinks is normal. The larger rectangle represents the space where everyone exists, regardless of their orientation.
